No Canadian Love this week it seems 👎

Congrats to everyone who got accepted this week 🙂

I hope the canadian spots aren't filled.

i honestly would be happy with a high waitlist with guaranteed acceptance for the year after 👍

it seems like they might be. theres only 25 spots and 8 people of this forum alone have been accepted. Chances are many people not on this forum got accepted as well? And im sure theres people from last year on high waitlist. I almost feel like the seats are infact done

You could be right. 🙁

Wasnt there a post in this thread that had compiled the acceptances and their stats? I couldn't find it since there were so many pages.

Is nobody trying to track the acceptances? It would benefit people applying to msucom since they go through applicants based on statistics first

I've been stalking this thread for a while so I guess I'll send everybody some love and luck for the best outcome. I'm also applying, 2nd app completed on August 21st and waiting to hear back ever since.

You know that feeling every Wednesday checking your email, feeling as if you are about to skydive 10000 feet above the ground without the 'chute. :scared:

Welcome to the club, and by the way I almost said I like the skydiving feeling until I realized you said without a chute, lol.

I see that a bunch of people are talking about the Canadian spots... so I thought I'd share how last year went 🙂

The bad news is that, the Canadian spots WERE in fact filled (or at least offered out) around October last cycle (which is around when all my application materials were complete... ha). So I would not be surprised for the same thing to happen this year.

The good news is, there was (and probably will be this year) some movement to that list. I was offered high-waitlist once they eventually reviewed me and was offered a spot in the 2016 class around May! I have however deferred to this year 🙂 So don't worry people, there will be some movement, and more acceptances! Even the guaranteed acceptance thing is so cool. It allowed me to work for the year, relax a bit, knowing that things were all settled for the next year!

How do you go about deferring? Do you need a good reason? Do you just have to put in your deposit or do you have to pay 1 years tuition?

The most recently updated list can be found on page 12. It was updated until the last week of Sept (9/28). Feel free to add to it.

Awesome men! One more, when did You complete secondary?

Early July. Then I got an email saying that my secondary was not complete two weeks ago. I called and they had made a mistake and it was. Then yesterday I was accepted!!!! 😍

Does anyone know if they send out rejection emails too? Another question: my secondary was complete late last week, if you do hear back does it normally take a week or two for them to review the sec before they make their decision?

Yes they do send out rejections. My friend got rejected during the fall of last cycle. Also, MSUCOM isn't a real true rolling admissions so you could hear as early as next week or as late as next April, unfortunately.

I've been complete since early Sept. and I have yet to hear anything so I wouldn't expect to hear anything right away. On the other hand, some people hear back very quickly, just don't expect a quick response.

Ok thanks. A friend got complete and accepted pretty quickly this cycle and I didn't know if that's how it always is. His stats are quite good so I didn't know if that had anything to do with it too. I'd imagine once they get your sec they make their final decision based on that or do they re-evaluate your whole app? In case if ppl were wondering my friend who got in has a 31R and 3.8, he's not on here and I know ppl like to see stats of everyone who has gotten in. Good luck to everyone waiting To hear back like me....this part blows

I don't think they really care what your reason is to be honest. I did have a good reason tho, plus the timing of when I was offered admission to when I'd have to attend was a little tight.

No deposit, no payments, nothing. (It actually made me nervous haha).

Considering deferring?

I applied last year and had everything in by early September and sent in updates about every six weeks. I didn't get "rejected" until the last week of March and was told it wasn't actually a rejection, just that they never fully reviewed my application. That surprised me because I'm IS and thought that they looked at every IS application. I reapplied this year and got in. I don't know if there is any rhyme or reason as to who they decide to review when.

I think that is really weird. But hey, you got in this year. Congrats! 👍

Yeah I am considering it. Did you just email admissions to tell them? Did you still have to send in the forms that were in the application packet?

That is actually quite surprising and sort of frightening... did they give a reason as to why they never "fully reviewed" your file, like an unusually large applicant pool or something? Congratulations, though, for getting in this year! That is an excellent turnaround.

Really, all I did was just reply to the emailed admission offer. Stated the facts, asked I could please defer... and that was about it.

The paranoid parrot inside of me, made me call right after as well to confirm that deferring was OK and to make sure everything was in order. It freaked me out that I was turning down other schools, AND also deferring MSU. Honestly it wasn't a hassle at all.

Don't do it though!! haha, that's one less Canadian living in Windsor!

They did say they had a large applicant pool, though I would assume they always do. I have to believe there was benefit in having everything in really early this time around. I'm so excited to start! Good luck to everyone!

Pretty much the large applicant pool, and the odd way they go about reviewing applicants. I explained it earlier in this thread I think but they rank you on certain parts of your application (MCAT, GPA, Volunteer hours are the main ones) and each week they pull from a different pile and only pull the TOP people. So you could turn in your app in June, be somewhere in the middle, and never be reviewed (however if you have like a crazy good MCAT, GPA, or # of volunteer hours, there's a good chance you will be seen). It completely sucks and, as the person who got rejected last year/accepted this year showed us, leaves them without seeing really good candidates. Hope that explains it a little for u 😎

Yes, that does indeed. I'm new to the network and tried to read what I could before getting here so I'm sorry for my ignorance. It's just funny to me that (on their website) they claim to be an "aggressive rolling admissions" school and that does not sound very rolling.

Thank you and 100312 🙂 that helps very much.

Yes and good luck to everyone still left!!!! This is some stressful stuff...

No worries, I only know how it really works because I've not only been on SDN for a while, but I've spoken with an admissions counselor at MSUCOM. I just like knowing everything I can about how these schools work 😉 I guess they claim "aggressive rolling admissions" because they like to offer out enough acceptances to fill their class by December 🙂eek🙂 so getting it in as early as possible is best. Also, since you are being judged against the other applicants in terms of ranking, turning it in early would theoretically rank you against less applicants than if you turned it in in the fall :annoyed:

Wow good for you for being an aggressive detective! I simply thought they never reveal that stuff to applicants. That's pretty legit and cray. Yeah, I did see that too. So is it then safe to assume that if you haven't heard anything by December, you're probably one of those they never got to? Gosh that just seems so awful... Having us wait here and never sending a rejection letter (til March) so we can move on with our lives and prepare for the next year... Sorry for venting. I'm a little worried and scared.

I know I was a little surprised too - I called to ask about what I could enhance on my application and I was told how the admissions process generally works (I wish I knew how they ranked stuff!). I think December and on is when they tend to give out a lot of their waitlist/high waitlist spots (someone correct me if I'm wrong) because they finally got to you and like you, but just don't have any spots to give. Until then, they definitely do send out rejections so I guess that means you were high enough on the list to be pulled, but they just plain don't like you. The MSUCOM process makes me nervous too :scared: but I guess whatever is meant to happen will happen!

I'll still be in Windsor most likely. I kind of want a year off to go to Germany and live with family and chill out before my life is non-stop. That's probably not a good reason though! Haha

Runawaycar09 do you mind sharing your stats? You have me worried because I don't have the strongest numbers...3.2s and 26 but a ton of volunteer and clinical experience. I figured since I'm IS that they would definitely look at me but now I don't know.

Beside the Canadians who got accepted, anyone OOS has heard the good news so far?

just throwing this out there... GO GREEEEEENNNNN!!!! big game day 🙂

No I totally get it. Sounds like I'm pretty much in the same boat as you: 3.3 cumulative, 3.0 sci, 27Q, IS, over 1000 volunteer hours, over 4000 work hrs and EC hours each, and TONS of clinical experience working for a year at an oncology hospital as a PCT. With the things I've experienced along with how hard I've worked, I will be DEVASTATED if they don't even look at my stuff. My essay was bomb. I'm sorry if I made you worry 🙁 I just want to know all that I can so I'm not blindsided...

So I wanted to go to the tour on Oct. 26th and emailed the person listed on the flier but never got a response. Anyone know if there is a different contact person? The tour is for anyone right?
