MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2012-2013

I agree that the exams can become pretty overwhelming due to the new curriculum, and that there are more people failing than last year and I know that last year students are saying it was pretty easy and they hardly lost anyone. But we lost 20 people alone from anatomy, and their year went through the same anatomy course we did in the Summer so I wouldn't blame that on the new curriculum.
I think the new integrated curriculum is great. With exams every two or three weeks I feel like I am getting more free time now than I would have been if I was in last year's schedule which was an exam every Monday, sometimes Thursdays too, which just encouraged a lot of cramming. If you really think about it, with more spread out exams they are giving us more power to control how we manage our time than them controlling how we manage it with individual course exam schedules.
Also, second years have a much tougher year now than they did last year, and it would be a lot more financially devastating for them to find out in second year that they can't handle the stress. For us, it's going to be balanced from now all the way till boards, and it's assuring to know that this is as hard as it would get so once we get used to this, it should be fine. At least we can learn whether or not we can handle the stress early before money becomes a big factor.

This is the new systems-based, Genesis curriculum.right?

I completely agree.
Wait listed. I don't really know what to feel. I don't really know what it means entirely. I guess I'm glad to have heard.

You heard today? Did they simply say waitlisted or was there more info?

I assume it's the low waitlist because I don't see anything about a "guaranteed" acceptance for next year, but I literally got 3 emails about what it means.
"The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is pleased to offer you a place on our waiting list for admission into the Class of 2017. We would be delighted to host a visit day for you, which would be your opportunity to interview us."
So they offer for a visit and say if I haven't heard anything before March, I should make an appointment with the advisers.
And yeah, I'm a resident. My husband and I graduated from Ohio State this year, got married right after and moved up here where he works for GM as a mechanical engineer and MSU is my number one all the way... I mean, I guess it's not a rejection and at least they sound somewhat interested because they gave me a pretty nice plan/schedule to work with. I'll keep holding out I guess.
Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet!! I'm rooting for you all
I'd actually go with cold, cloudy, rainy, lastly snow. I can't remember the last time it snowed something sticky in november. Was there even snow at christmas last year? year before?Cold, snow, cold, cloudy, snow, oh and cold.

How long was your secondary complete?
I was complete August 14th.
I have been complete since Aug 4th, but did not get my new MCAT score to MSUCOM until October 12-15th, any chance they have reviewed my app yet?
Anyone accepted today? Complete since 9/18

I had a 3.77cGPA, 3.67sGPA and 29S. My VR was so bad. I had tons of hours in community service and research though. Good luck to everyone else!
Soooo what are people planning on wearing to this thing today?
I think I might just go to Detroit, I got in really late. I'm wearing grey pants and a pinkish colored shirt. Do you know about the schedule or if we are supposed to stay the whole time?
I would still like to go to Macomb but only of it is like a real open house where you just show up anytime during the listed hours.

I think the day is pretty planned if what I hear is correct. I'm sorry you couldn't make it to Macomb. BUT Detroit is better because that's the one I'm going to! 😛
