I just have a quick question about the deadline for responding to the offer of admission. I got accepted this Wednesday, Oct 24th and I want to know what will be the deadline to respond to the offer because I need to schedule my other interviews accordingly?
ACCEPTED!
MSUCOM c/o 2017!!!!!!
Now, about this no remediation policy in Anatomy.....
I am le scared. MSUCOM current students, what did you do to ENSURE/foster success?
The open house was awesome. There are some outstanding doctors that came out of MSU.
oh, I believe it. don't get me wrong; i don't fear the task of perpetual studying but I DO wonder about how the class camaraderie is. Do all the students get along; is it a close knit academic community? HOW involved is MSUCOM's faculty and how invested are they in their students' success? If no current students response I might be able to help. My buddy is in his first semester and said that the 1st is brutal. He was studying from 8am-11pm almost everyday and just made it with a 76 and passing is a 75. I'm sure there are ppl who don't need to study quite that much but he told me many times make sure you really want to do this because you won't have a life. So moral of the story..to successfully pass you just need to study...study...and study more lol. Hope this helps.
For those who have been wondering, the dean explained how they select which files to review on a given Wednesday. They keep track of each day that applications are received. Then they score applications based on a combination of GPA, MCAT, and a couple other factors. Each Wednesday they start pulling files in order of date with a particular score. They usually do about 50 files per Wednesday.
Hmmm interesting I wonder where the GPA, MCAT, and volunteer hours start for that..
But they also said that they do look at all the files. So let's say one week they look at people who applied by August 20th with a 400 points, the next week could be people with 350 points. It was not clear when they transition to a different date or if they switch back and forth from different dates. But he said if your score was lower it is still an advantage to get the application turned in early. He also explained the wait list that gets guaranteed acceptance for next year. You will know if you are on that list once the class is full. It also sounded as though your date of application was more related to the primary not the secondary but I am not sure about that, it is just how he worded things that made it sound like that was the date they used.

Wait so, if I got waitlisted, I won't know which one I'm on (high or low) until the end of the application cycle?
I know for certain that this is not 100% correct because I know MSU undergraduate students that never had their files read and that was what MSUCOM told them when they called up until the end of their reviews in May.
And in theory, this would mean, I should be reviewed this week or next week because I submitted June 1st, but was not complete with my retake score until two weeks ago.
I think she's mixing up a lot of points the dean was saying. You get a scored number for your app (e.g. 450, 400, 350, etc). Within these groups you are placed in order of when your app was turned in. They look through number groups first (e.g. a person with a 450 turned in last week will get reviewed before a 300 in july). It depends on how many people are in front of u whether your app gets looked at. Being early is ONLY an advantage within your own number group. And the high waitlist=acceptance for next year is correct, idk why the dean didn't address that.
He said by number and date but I think that is confusing because if you turn in your app at the end of sept and you score 400 but they already looked at prior 400s when do you get looked at?
See what I'm saying?
Right right I understand. I just assumed that that person would get pushed to the front of the line 😡
I don't know, I thought they would cycle or something, like 400, 350, 300, 400 etc. but I think he was a bit unclear about that part.
I just believe to myself that as long as you completed before the end of August
You are guaranteed to be looked at. They really stress this timepoint on their website. So after August? Luck is what you need maybe? I don't think I have heard anyone applied before the end of august who didn't get reviewed due to the large applicant pool.

i feel like it would make more sense to prescreen applicants, then send out the secondaries then review secondaries for acceptances since you already pasted the prescreen. It sounds like your secondary doesnt carry much weight which is kinda weird to me. This way they wouldnt have to go through 5K applications, but then again Im not in charge of admissions.
I didn't even know that. What is the min requirements?
Lol yeah i didn't know until pretty recently. Before it was 6, 5 and 4 (i don't remember which number for which subsection). Now i believe it is 8 for BS and 6 for PS and VR. I bet that probably screens out a good chunk of people, but who really knows!
DrMeows, I cannot tell you how much I am rooting for you to get into MSUCOM. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Did they mention when the next open house will be?
Does anyone know if you can apply for in state residency after one year of tuition/schooling? This 80k thing is a feisty lil devil.

I just say differ and go somewhere else with cheaper tuition
🙂 open up spots for the rest of us instaters
😉Do they send out rejections???
You would think that if they know who they can place on the low waitlist that they would know who is rejected as well? Do you think it's still a good sign having not heard anything yet?
No they didn't. Is there supposed to be another one? I assumed that was the only one.
Oh man...I was at another state during the open house. I figured there should be another one since people still need to hear back from the school until end of May?
It was just to show people the school. If you are accepted I believe you can set up a tour to see the campuses (I'm pretty sure...)
while i would LOVE to help ya out; my OWN state isn't even an option so no matter what, every out of stater is outta luck for whatever slot I go with! someone can share half my seat/desk. 🙂Hahahhaa😉
I wish someone put together a list of those who were accepted and their stats. Now that people finally know what I knew months ago, it makes sense to them to have a list of accepted people and stats so that we know how to track the progress of acceptances as the numbers decrease from the first acceptances

Great thought. Maybe it should be you?
