I think they review the application a couple weeks after you are complete. I'm guessing the turn around time to be about 2-3 weeks, unless you have stellar stats (ex: 3.6+, 30+ MCAT) so then you have chance to be reviewed in a week or two. I talked to the associate dean and he said my application should be reviewed sometime in the month (don't know if he meant September or October). I'm guessing I should know by early October.
You know what ticks me off, I hear people being accepted to MSUCOM that have ABSOLUTELY NO desire to go there. They have absolutely no knowledge of osteopathic medicine, no DO shadowing, no commitment to the DO profession. Those people just apply to it as an assurance school (and because its instate) but hold onto the seat till the end then release it. Which screws over the people that really would like to attend. Which really makes me wonder if they even look at osteopathic commitment during the admissions review or just the numbers. But I guess that is what the deposit is for, to weed out people that do this.
This is an actual story of someone I met that goes to MSUCOM right now, He told me he applied in early November to MSUCOM after he found out he won't get into Wayne State or other MD schools. And he got accepted right off the bat (he said he had a 3.5 gpa, 30 MCAT). His exact words were "I didn't even know what a DO was till someone told me to apply here" I told him what class do you have next today, he goes "UHH OMM, I will find out today what we do in this class" I felt like knocking him out. Seriously why accept people like this???
UGHHH sorry people, just had to rant a little bit.
