I recently was (very graciously) accepted into MSUCOM. At the same time, I was also referred by MSUCHM to do their ABLE program that's basically 1 year of passing post-bac classes to get accepted into their program, (which I would still have to be selected for by June).

A week ago, this wasn't even a choice for me as I do not mind being DO but with the new changes regarding step 1 and obtaining a residency, I have thought about this choice a little more.

I'm really curious though on how MSUCHM will change their curriculum that was essentially designed to prep and do well on Step 1?

All in all, I am very humbled to be in this position but I would not mind hearing input from others.

During my interview at CHM I actually didn't really get the impression that their curriculum was focused on doing well on Step 1, but rather building really strong clinicians which might make students stronger on Step 2 CK (or maybe not, who knows how that actually translates).

That being said, it's deff a low tier school and I don't know that it would make an incredible amount of difference vs. a DO from COM, which is a if not the top DO school. Further, I didn't get the impression that the ABLE program was a 100% guarantee, in which case you're giving up a sure thing for a slightly improved chance at a competitive residency from an MD school that aims to churn out mostly primary care physicians anyway. I get that the recent USMLE change has made more of a difference for DO students than it has for MDs, but I don't think it really justifies turning down an acceptance and spending a year of your life taking more postbac classes. Just my perspective on it
