RowanSOM

Pros:
  • northeast
  • closer to big city
  • felt more involved in mentorship and guidance
Cons:
  • new curriculum? combining sgl and pbl
  • no big 10 school vibes
MSUCOM

Pros:
- very strong research and reputation
- research seems more accessible in curriculum
- east lansing is college town which I enjoy

Cons:
- matches for ortho seem very centered in michigan
- just overall vibes seemed less connected with faculty I encountered and spoke with

Summary: I am OOS for both these schools and just wanted more opinions and thoughts about this decision. I am very set on ortho surg at the moment and can see myself more in the northeast for the next 10 years which is why I am leaning towards RowanSOM. Side note: RVUCOM - CO is also an option and being in Colorado sounds awesome but this school doesn't seem to be in the same tier from what I've gathered

If you want to stay in northeast go to rowan. I would say if you are really strongly on orthopedics MSU COM is great but you must know that for matches they tend to stay in michigan. The reason why is that there are several historically AOA (DO) residency programs for these specialties.
