I know a lot of students go into Medical Technology and then go onto med school. If any of you have, I'm curious if you know what a Medical Laboratory Scientist actually makes. I've looked online but most list the salary for Technicians/Technologists, not too mention those ballpark salaries are often wrong (for example many Occupational Therapists in the OT forum say they make a lot more than what is listed online). I'm very interested in this field, but if the salary is truly around $50,000 I would never pay off my student loans.

I used to be apart of a lab like quest and we hired a med tech for 50k/year.

Yeah, it's close to $50k a year, with experience. I'm related to one that's been working at the job for about 30 years. If you like weird hours (though you could probably work mostly 1st shifts if you don't), it can be nice.

I am actually a MT (ascp) umm.. U will start around atleast 45k.. With hospitals.. a little more with private labs..and quest/lab corp... your not broke but you def won't have lots of money to spare.. Job security is really good.. Very flexible hours as they need med techs 24 hrs a day.. Try to find a 1 yr program like at md anderson and others.. Its much better to take the 1 yr 9-5 program and get the certificate instead of the 2 yr 9-5 BS program..hope this helps

Here in southern CA, MTs start at $34/hour and can go up to $40/hour. Thats $65k-$75.
