If you had the opportunity to go to Mt. Sinai or Tufts, which would you chose and why. Both schools are in great cities and both schools have a great reputation in medical education what a dilemma!!

SINAI without a doubt!

New York you can't beat.
Sinai is very very cheap for a private school.
Tufts ranks lower than Sinai.
Tufts is more expensive than sinai.
Sinai is Pass/Fail (not sure if tufts is)
Sinai has great and cheap (comparatively) housing.

Final words of wisdom: Go to Sinai...

Yep. Sinai - and no question about it whatsoever.

How about Mayo vs. Sinai for MD/PhD??

This would be a very nice dilemma to have!! 😀
I'd just like to get interviews from both of these schools. They are both sooooooo slow! 🙄

Well, that's up to you 🙂

Mayo
- VERY VERY VERY SMALL CLASS (too close for comfort for me)
- Rochester MN (right?) Was that a gunshot? Oh, no..ole Fred just had beans again last night....cool....BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Higher rank than Sinai (more prestige)
- Small class leads to being cared for very well

Sinai
-city life baby
-ranked lower but still a good school
-more diversity
-cost? not sure

You really have to ask yourself...city or semi-rural

Hey Scoob -- I loved the gun-shot - I was on the floor!! 😀

Actually being in an MD/PhD program the class size per se is not tremendously important to me (although I say that with a grain of salt). I guess (now this is very long term of course), I'd like to go back to NYC for post-grad stuff. So maybe doing my degrees at Mayo will be a nice "out" of the city (i'm from NY actually). The only thing is -- I find the MOLECULAR neuroscience program to be a bit better at Sinai. However the clinical caliber of Mayo just completely annihilates Sinai. Nonetheless research is my passion (Boy do I REGRET not applying to WashU or UCSF -- I'm just soo pissed -- who knows maybe I can get a residency at UCSF 😀 . In any case -- Mayo's neurodegenerative research group is excellent. I dunno -- let's see how this all plays out. I was considering Yale too. But there's something about Mayo that draws me away from Yale (nonetheless I've yet to hear post-interview from either).

I guess the other thing is this question of MSTP. (Sinai actually is a very up and coming MSTP). However, Mayo uses the Mayo Clinic/Foundation to fund it's students (same amount of funding though). NIH sees Mayo as leaning more toward "translational" (i.e. clinical) research as opposed to "hard-core" basic sciences -- so is a little wary about giving them NIH slots -- but that may change as they are now trying to get guys (and gals) that are heavily rooted in basic sciences to come to their program (hence my interview I guess -- I've been in the lab for six years now).

But as for location -- I was surprised that the area around the clinic was pretty "urban" I mean of course not like here in NY but nonetheless very small-cityish. At times I feel I need a break from the whole city thing. But then again, I love home! If it all plays out -- it'll be a tought choice. Ironically though, as an MD-school -- I liked Sinai a whole lot better than Columbia -- although Cornell is kinda tied. But that's another topic.

As there are not enough people on the board from Mayo -- I'd be interested to hear all your thoughts about the place (also they've got money coming outta the woodwork to fund anything).

Funny thing -- my previous gun-shot comment wasn't such a bad pun -- alright I just killed it -- wait...there it is again -- alright alright I'll stop <img src="graemlins/laughy.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughy]" />

Sinai is a GREAT school. I would definitely choose it over Tufts!

Oh yea going back to the original post -- Sinai over Tufts DEFINITELY!
