Mullets are common practice for most residency candidates. For decades they have be the deciding factor for the more competitive specialties. I am just suprised it has taken so long for this trend to migrate to MS candidates. (disclaimer: I do not know the influence of she-mullets)

I heard some neuro residencies had mullet minimum requirements of at least 12 inches, in addition to sworn statements or otherwise proof of having said mullet for five or more years.

I don't actually sport a mullet, I was just contemplating the ramifications of having one.

I just imagine this situation: The interviewer sees you head on and thinks to his/herself... "Wow, this candidate is well dressed, very well groomed..." Then the interview is conducted, you shake hands with the interviewer, turn to walk out of the room, and then he/she sees it.

As they say... business in the front, party in the back!

I think mullets would increase your chances of getting in. Diversity is key.
