math, ochem, writing, yes. reading, no.

I listen to music during studying but prefer TV... I like sports, news, or my all time favorite- The old Charlie's Angels 🙂

I HAVE to listen to music while I study. I write to the beat and it goes faster.

Music without lyrics work best for me. I get distracted when I realize I'm singing along or trying to decipher the song. Techno, electronica, classical 👍

Stimulated by back ground noise, the reticular activating system "wakes up" your brain. No wonder studying while listening to music helps.

Always. I used to have to have music on to sleep. I also used to get distracted really easily by the sounds, but now I just filter it into background noise and don't notice when my favorite songs come on.

Doesn't work so well when I'm doing certain things, though. Like reading for the sake of reading...

"in Rainbows" has been on a constant repeat the last two weeks on my shuffle.

I always listen to music while I do hw. And study. For some reason it keeps me focused and if I'm not, I end up daydreaming & reading the same paragraph/whatever else a ton of times.

Reggae!!!!!

I read an article about how the beat helps you pace yourself an increases retention, thats how it all started, back when I was in middle school sometime, now I'm a bit of a reggae fanatic.

I love radiohead. I've been listening to the Pixies a lot recently

I need background noise ... a tv on randomly works great for me. I get really weirded out if it's dead silent. I try to listen to music too, but usually I just get too into it and loose focus on what im studying. I throw in the very best of sting and the police while doing work and before I know it I'm playing air guitar and singing ROXANNNEEEE ....

i'm the opposite. i prefer silence. i notice that i study more effeciently when it's silent. i also prefer reading/studying aloud and pacing around. it's just me.

Come on no pixies love? You guys are crazy...

^^^ agree 100%...though i usually do have music playing with lyrics while studying. I def. think i could do hw with music for 3-4 hrs or hw without for an hr n then be bored out of my mind. so i dont know which is more productive since i do stop alot n change songs or sing along etc. haha

Techno works best for me....it lightens my mood when I am pissed I have to read 3 chapters in one night.
