I am in my Biochem class and I just had an epiphany, My professor does not know ****. She is reading off slides that another professor made. We are at the section about inhibitors and she did not know what defined competitive, uncomp, and noncomp. She says she has all these credentials but I felt like I learned more while doing my MCAT self prep. Can I do sufficient on the MCAT with self taught biochem? I am worried that she will not teach me anything.

This is a good thing. Most of med school you’re trying to do well in school despite how hard your professor phones in a PowerPoint they didn’t make and gives test questions they didn’t write. Your current situation used to be my Tuesday.

TLDR; you can do well on the mcat teaching yourself

Makes me feel much better. Thank you!

Seek out help from other Biochem Faculty. Use Khan Academy or YouTube videos. Get a tutor.
Complain about your professor to her Chair.

Check this out. This guy was an absolute savior when I took biochem

UPDATE:

We just got our first exam grades back, I received the highest grade in the class at a 93%. I am a little less worried because she told people that got in the 50s they could still receive a overall B in the class.

Don't trust this and just keep getting 90's. Why would you trust an incompetent professor? This is clearly placating. If it was the chair or provost I would trust it, but she can't make that call in a vacuum if other professors are involved in teaching the class.

Edit: Sorry just realized the time gap between the last post and this post. Didn't mean to pseudo-necro post on an old(er) thread.

No other professors are involved in teaching the class.

My biggest shock in med school was that most of these PhD professors had no idea of most of the things they were talking about.

You could clearly saw the difference when a subject was being taught by an MD vs a PhD.
