Hey all...

So i was verified today and have a 32S, BCPM 3.44, Overall 3.53...my science gpa trend is 2.95,3.01,3.87,3.65..so it's been on its way up all the way

LORs are good, EC's are diverse and awesome...and I was told my PS is very solid

Think I can shoot for say: Northwestern, Emory, Madison, OHSU, CO state, Georgetown, Tufts, Baylor?

Those are my dreams...

I'm asking because I want to add these schools...just need to know if I'd be wasting money or making a good purchase

It's worth a try (I think everyone should try for at least a few reach schools), but your chances probably aren't excellent.🙁 Best shots might be at GTown and Tufts provided those EC's are as good as you say.

Yeah, careful with the claim of awesome EC's - that tends to be a relative standard. 😉

Georgetown is a good bet, though.

You most likely won't be competitive at many of those schools unless you are in state (for the state schools)

In the broad scheme of things it would be a mistake if you don't spend the money and at least shoot for your dream schools. If you really want to go to a big name school -- your personal top choices -- then you just have to apply. Nobody on this board will tell you, trust me some stuff that happened to me in the process was unpredicatable, and you know, out of the norm that statistics tends to predict. There is no set rule and seriously they do give interviews to students to a broad range of students. You will spend so much money becoming a doctor, that the application fees should simply not factor in (its so marginal). I personally applied to schools based on how much their secondaries cost. Seriously, that was a deciding factor for me! looking back, I was being ******ed 😳. No one limits how many schools you can apply to, and no one says that you can't do all the secondaries you get. (I'm glad my immaturity worked out as most things in life usually work out 👍)

I think its all a crap shoot. To be safe you want to stand above the school's average, but the average only means 50% got in with BELOW that number. So your chances, I think, are as good as anyone elses.

If they're your dream schools, apply to them. You don't want to end up wondering.

Baylor is pretty stringent with OOSers even though it is private ... so unless you're from TX I wouldn't bother with it, there are plenty of other good schools out there.

If I were you, I would not waste my time with top 20 schools, except for maybe Pittsburgh. You would be considered for interview at most other private schools.

Only apply to Colorado or Madison if you are a resident of one of those states.

My suggestions---
Reaches: OHSU, Emory, Northwestern, Baylor, Gtown, Tufts (Gtown and Tufts get tons of applications)
Good fits & safeties: USC, the SUNYs, SLU, Temple, RFU, NYMC, Loyola, Jefferson, Drexel, Creighton, EVMS

You say not to apply to top 20 schools, then list Northwestern? Also, USC as a good fit? Are you talking about University of South Carolina? Because USC-Keck is going to be a reach, esp if he isn't a CA resident.

Your numbers are such that I suspect some of those 8 schools will take an earnest look at you -- go for it. (I'm assuming you have other apps out -- your numbers are not such that I would only apply to those 8.)
