I am a college freshman. I am majoring in psychology and minoring in biology & health sciences. I am finishing my first semester in college and I have a 4.0 as of know. I want go to medical school more than anything. I know most people choose a biology major but for some reason I didn't feel that route was for me and after much thinking I decided to major in psych with minors in biology & health science while also doing all my pre-med required courses. I absolutely love what I am studying and I feel that is why my grades are so good. I am also an officer in the pre-med society at my school organizing volunteer events and working with other pre-med students. I work in a physical therapy clinic where although it is not considered medicine, I work a great deal with patients and it is giving me very valuable experience. I also shadow doctors & volunteer at hospice at least once a month. With all that I am doing it does seem like a lot but I love doing it and it keeps me busy and happy! I know medical schools really like diversity and I am obviously not the typical student. Is there anything I should change that would better my chances?

AMCAS has some tables to show you some historical data about chances of getting into medical school based on GPA, MCAT, ethnicity and other factors. It is still very early in your path to medical school but at this point I would focus on doing what you really like and keep up the good grades. Things like major come secondary, and most medical schools are looking for people who genuinely have an interest in medicine and not just "checking boxes."

0% until you take the MCAT and have a few years of GPA on you belt

You're a freshman? Come back in 2 years with your updated app. For now, keep up grades and gain some clinical experience. Also, rock the MCAT, develop strong relationships with your professors for solid LORs and think about experiences you could potentially frame your personal statement around.

Way too early to know.

You're in the middle of your first semester. Likely, you're taking Bio I and Gen Chem I along with your Psych and other required classes. Who knows how you'll do when you take Orgo or Physics.

You appear to be a strong student with the intent of having meaningful medically related ECs, so if that continues and you do well on the MCAT, then you'll have a good chance as long as you also have a thoughtful app list.

Keep doing what you are doing. Try some new things out, like research. But do what you like to do and keep your GPA high. Study hard for the MCAT and good luck.
