Hello,

I am trying to apply for the Fall 2020 class to DO schools and wanted to the opinion of everyone here. Currently I have completed a masters in biomedical sciences at RowanSOM with a GPA of 3.74. My undergrad gpa was 3.2 overall. I have taken MCAT twice with a 493. I am currently working as a scribe and a pharm tech. I know my MCAT is low and that is why I wanted to ask on this forum to see if I stand a shot at any medical school?

Thanks.

Need to retake MCAT. If you can't crack a 500 on the third time, with taking as much time as possible, odds are you won't be able to pass boards and schools will pass on taking that risk

I can't recommend applying unless you can get your MCAT score > 500. You're in the risk zone for failing out and/or failing Boards.

OP, given your previous threads where you already accepted an offer to attend a podiatry school from this Fall, why are you asking about applying to DO programs?

Your chances are very low. Not zero, but very low. Like, single digit %s low.

I wouldn’t apply with that score unless daddy donated the school a hospital.

MCAT round three. I would figure out a better way to study though. Don't waste your time taking it again and not changing anything!

I applied to and got into Temple Podiatry but I am keeping that as my back up. I really want to make it into a DO school but do not want to waste more years and after shadowing a few podiatrist I really liked it but the pay for podiatrist is not so great ( <150k).

It was in 2017 fall. After that I did the masters program.
Retake MCAT and study hard for it this time. You have a decent chance with your GPA and try to leverage connections at RowanSOM through your master's.

Great GPA but youll need to seriously consider an MCAT tutor. You have to get your MCAT score up to get accepted even at a new DO school. You are obviously smart if you got a 3.7+ in RowanSOMs biomed program which includes the same gross anatomy SOMs 1st yr med students take. You have to learn how to crack the MCAT code since I think you are capable just need to find a way to study smarter. How long did you prep for the MCAT? 12 weeks? 4 weeks? Im an MS2 at RowanSOM and they love their masters students a decent portion of my class came from there. Focus on the MCAT

If you were accepted to Temples Pod school... is that for this year? or for next year? If this year, did they/will they grant a deferral? If not, it won't exactly be a back up, rather may not even be an option for next year if you decline for the current year.

If it's for next year, or a deferral is being granted, then all the above: get over a 500 on the MCAT and apply, then matriculate to either a med school or pod school next year.

good luck.
