My stats are as follows....

Overall Undergrad GPA (Pre-Medical Studies and Accounting): 3.537
Science and Math GPA: 3.484
Current Graduate GPA (Accounting): 3.821
MCAT: 24Q (Bio 7 Phys 9 Verb 8)

Tons of volunteering at a dental office and a hospital. Managed a dental office for 6 months. LORs from plenty of professors and doctors and dentists.

I went to a large public university.

What do you guys think? Do I stand a chance?

You will get interviews to every school you apply for sure and probably into all of them barring your interview.

Have you shadowed a podiatrist? You'll probably want to do that. A letter from a podiatrist would be very helpful.

Your stats are excellent, and you're still on time to apply for Fall 2012.

You're good.

Hey guys!

I was thinking about applying to podiatry schools. I know its a little late in the game but I need my next semesters GPA to come in. I graduated my undergrad with a 2.88 GPA but am now in a 1 year masters program in biomedical sciences. I was a pre-dent student but decided that podiatry is for me after shadowing at a local clinic as well as shadowing a podiatrist in the hospital here. First time I took the DAT I had 17s all around. Second time, I improved my sciences to 18 and 19s but my PAT and MATH sections went down( 16s). What are my chances at Temple and NYCPM? Also can I want till march or april to take the MCAT if i dont get interviews from Temple and NYCPM?

How is your masters

if your masters isnt well above a three, then you wont be terribly competitive but still have a tiny chance

what about your hobbies what do you do etc

I disagree.

You would probably be accepted with a three (although grad programs tend to be inflatd..) with how pod applications are. However why do the bare minimum, if I'm gonna do something I'm gonna make sure I kick the ass out of it and then some out of whatever I'm doing. Doing the minimum not gonna get your Top scholarship, Top ten, Top residency, Top ortho/multi/big pod practice and Top lifestyle. I was trying to psych the OP, esp since the question guy has sketchy numbers (not like I said he didnt have a chance)

Just wanted to give them the best advice, and good advice is to do more.

Thank you for the advice! My program is a biomedical science masters and I hope to get a 3.5+ in my first semester. I was thinking about applying in january. I also plan on doing research within the year, though it may not be completed by first semester. Should I let the school know? Any more advice would help a lot! Thank you again

Great job on those numbers. I had similar numbers and got in, I'm confident that if you apply soon, you will get into any school.

How long have you been considering podiatry?

Well I personally think you are well qualified for podiatry and D.O. programs if you are interested in more traditional medicine. From what I see online people get into podiatry school with credentials well below yours (2.7-3.0 GPA with low MCAT). Study harder on the MCAT if you want M.D., but podiatry and probably D.O. you are more than ready.

Your GPA and your DAT score are both on the low end. I would say you have a very slim chance of getting into Temple, especially with a DAT that low and a slightly better chance at getting into NYCPM. You should take the MCAT and try to get a high GPA in your masters program. Many schools accept students into May, June and even July. Good luck.

You are more or less guaranteed to get accepted, unless you are crazy or something. Now you just have to shadow a podiatrist and decide if it is something you actually want to do for the rest of your life, especially since it seems like you may have wanted to be a dentist? Go in the phone book, find 3 or 4 podiatrists, give them each a call and shadow them all for a day each. Try to get in on a surgery with one of them if you can. Podiatry school and residency is very long and challenging and you will be miserable if you find out you don't love it after 2 or 3 years.
