hey all,

I have a 2K deposit to make by july15th. I asked the school to get an extension on it. They asked me how many days I need, and they will come up with the decision.

What is the number of appropriate days to ask for an extension. Honestly I need about 15 more days (ie july 30th), but is it too much? how many days do they usually grant? (i was only given 10 days to make this deposit since i got accepted 10 days ago)

👍

Do you need time to make a decision? Or come up with the deposit?

If you know you will be attending and giving them a deposit but need more time to come up with the full amount you might say something like, I can give X amount now but will need until X date to obtain the rest. - This way they know they can count on you and I would imagine they would be more lenient to extend to the date you desire.

If you just need more time to contemplate if you will attend I would say the more time you ask for, the more likely they will be to deny the extension. They have a waitlist full of other applicants who would probably jump at the oppurtunity.

just my 2 cents. hope this helps.

This. Tell them that you are committed to attending the school, but that you won't have the funds until the 30th (I'm guessing that is payday?). If they refuse, you could try those legalized loan sharks like check into cash or something along those lines.

thanks for the reply, well I have difficulty coming up with the money. I could probably come up with $500 now and perhaps ask for 15 day extension to pay the other 1500$.

PS. my acceptance if for next year. not this year.

Ah, so they might not have a waitlist of sharks ready to bite? Is this early decision?

If you know you want to go there I would definitely express this to them, offer the $500 and say you will need 15 days for the rest. Just be sure you can actually obtain the remaining amount by that date!

yeah, it's an early decision. no sharks yet.

I will do that.

Thanks

I would pay what I could now and tell them you will have the rest by the 30th, they should work with you. If not, then go to a bank and see if you can get a personal loan for the amount, and then just roll the extra 2000 in your student loan or pay it off when you get your money on the 30th.

I think the school would be willing to work with you here.

Just currious but......How come its only "A Penny For Your Thoughts" but "You Have To Put Your Two Cents In"?

I figure a bunch of bright pre-meds should be able to answer this profound philosophical question....lol. 😉

As a philosophy minor, I should be able to handle this stimulating philosophical question...

Oh well. 🙄

a friend of mine did something similar when I came to school in '09. They will more than likely accept the 500$ as a good faith payment... They went to A LOT of trouble to interview you, vet your credentials, and then offer an acceptance letter. They have as much vested in your acceptance as you do, so they will most likely be lenient for you.

EDP? They should definitely give you a chance to come up with the bucks - its not like you can go somewhere else, right?
