Took the Step 1 today...

My thoughts are similar to others. I could pick the answer quickly with a good bit of confidence on about 1/3 of the questions. About 1/2 of the questions required reasoning and low yield knowledge from the concepts learned during the first 2 years (which I just now realized that I actually did learn something during those years). The rest were definitely out of my realm of knowledge, and I wouldn't have got regardless of how much I studied. So So So many times I could get it to 2 answers, but had to just pick one. Now that is frustrating because statistically I will only get 1/2 of those right. However, I almost always could narrow the answer choices down a little bit...so that was nice.

I would like to say one thing to all the average students out there (which there aren't many on this board) that haven't done so well the first 2 years. I realized today...and during the NBME Self-Assessments...that I really do know a good bit of information from the first 2 years, regardless of what my class rank is (which is very low).

If I had to do it again, I would do the following....

Immediately after classes are over, I would take one of the NBME Self-Assessments and just see where I stood as a whole. If I was already above the passing range, then I could relax and realize that failing was not an option. Then I would get the First Aid, BRS Path, and probably a good Biochem review book. I would try to get through these books a couple of times and then take another one of the NBME Self Assessments to check for any improvement. Then I would review the things that I was weak in and take the damn thing.

I made a ___ on the Step 1. (I will fill this in when I get the scores).
NBME Self Assessments: 450 and 440
What I studied: First Aid
First 2 years: Bottom 1/3 of the class (major slacker...and somewhat proud of it)
