Here's the deal: my friend goes to the University of Oklahoma and has really good PCAT scores and a 3.8 GPA. He has worked in a pharmacy since he was 20 and has tons of community service under his belt. From someone who is already in pharmacy school somewhere else, he has the perfect application.

He told me he's applying to UT-Austin, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC. But he told me his parents were not approving of him applying to Texas Tech because they said that school was not training pharmacists properly. His parents are both pharmacists in a big city and they said they have dealt with many Tech grads and they are incompetent (their words, not mine).

Think of this as a hypothetical: if my friend were to get denied everywhere EXCEPT texas tech, do you think he should accept their admission or not? I told him that pharmacy school is pharmacy school and that he should go. What do you think?

With those stats, I really doubt he'll get denied at the other schools, but in your hypothetical I would go to Texas Tech. That is, unless his parents are willing to pay him the salary he's missing out on by not attending Texas Tech (and that's the only school he's accepted to).

He should take into consideration what they've said and weigh it against other schools, but at the end of the day, for now anyway, a Pharm.D is pretty much a Pharm.D (Not withstanding PGY Residency and such from certain schools, etc).

There's almost no chance of that happening, so just wait and make the decision if that time comes. Just remember that a lot of learning is done on the job.

Sounds like a post intended on bashing Texas Tech. I would be sure to point out to your friends' parents that Texas Tech has had a higher pass rate on the NAPLEX than OU for the last four years.

No I'm not intending on bashing any schools, I'm just relaying what I'm hearing from him.

Your "friend" shouldn't apply to any schools that he wouldn't attend if accepted. It's disrespectful to the school and to the students that get waitlisted behind him. Someone else pointed out that with those stats it won't be a problem, and that's true. But do you really want to piss off your parents that badly? Maybe Texas Tech is exactly the right place to go.
