Dear Friends,

I had my interview at one school. The person hugged me after the interview and told me not to worry.

My MCAT was 3-4 below their state but my GPA was very high. She never asked about my stat.

Interview matters so much. be prepared and confident and have a story to tell. Stay humble

Ps: I can not tell you the school name, but its in the south.

Oh my god, that's so sweet. I'm happy for you that you had such a kind interviewer.

Geez, I don't even remember when I last had a hug.

that's because you don't take initiative. If you want a hug, just hug someone, anyone, first person you see. Latch onto them and don't let go. Or better yet, sneak up from behind and give them a bearhug.

Or maybe you have had so many hugs that you don't remember which one was last?

Not to rain on your parade, but I know so many people who were guaranteed an acceptance at their interview and weren't accepted. There was a whole post about it.

On the flip side, I had a very similar interview and I got in, so I hope it works out for the best for you.

most important stay positive

Def. the former. So, can I call you from jail when I get slapped with an assault charge for hugging some stranger?

Maybe I should go outside holding one of those "Free Hugs" signs.😀

Sure, I'll even pay your bail.

yes, I did.

My advise to people. just have a story and be confident and humble

Kurdish girls >> ALL

Congratulations on your interview and good luck!

after one interview i emailed my interviewer to thank him. he emailed back that i had "done great in the interview and with the committee."

on 10/16 i was accepted.

well now, i think the type of hug makes a big difference. was it a waist hug? was it a short hug? was it an uncomfortably long hug? details matter!

I would be one of them.. I was told I was in and oh look here I am a reapplicant

Kurdish, that sounds like a wonderful way to end an interview. I could have used a few hugs, myself, today.

I've read some of your other posts & think that you self confident and have a beautifully gentle, supportive, and helping spirit. You will be a fine doctor one day. Congratulations on obtaining multiple acceptances!

maybe they hugged you bc they thought you were nervous.

that may be a bad thing😕

IMO, a hug definitely crosses the line for professionalism in an interview. A nice good handshake should really be the only meaningful physical contact to be made. Hell, it's even possible to get into issues of sexual harassment with hugs

I would not be so trusting of the interviewers. In the end of the day you are one of the 10 people they interviewed that day, and I"m sure others received hugs as well. It is pretty much a gamble after your interview is over.

True. And even if this interviewer lobbies for you at the adcom meeting, that doesn't always mean that the other adcoms lobbying for their own interviewees are going to give you the nod -- it is a committee decision, not a single interviewer decision. All you can do is your best, sell yourself effectively and hope things pan out. I personally wouldn't read too much into a hug, other than that the person is a bit inappropriate.

You will find that interview does not matter as much as people put hope in it. There are countless stories on SDN when interviewers would tell applicants that they are a shoe in or most likely be accepted and then they are rejected without even a waitlist.

lol...you are female, right? If I hugged a random person the response would be different. If females hug females, then I'm guessing there is no problem/it is a good thing. If females hug males, the males are generally happy, but sometimes uncomfortable.

If I hugged a female, depending on the situation, I could get maced, slapped, etc. and the female could scream for help, be uncomfortable and stay quiet, start struggling, actually be happy, etc. If a hugged a random male, he would probably think I was gay and depending on the situation, I could get punched in the face (or elbowed perhaps if I did it from behind), get hugged back, or the guy would stay still and do nothing and be confused.
