I just got done taking the CDrom test from Kaplan 07-08 book. I am planning on taking the DAT in about 12 days. Do you think I should postpone it or take it?

TS: 18
bio: 17
GC: 17
OC: 19
RC: 16 🙁 🙁 🙁
QR: 23

PAT: 19

My RC score was really bad and I just don't get it. I have been getting scores in the range of 16-22. I took the reading comprehensive workshop A from Kaplan and got a 22 on it and I took the full length today and I got a 16.

Do you think my actual scores will be like this, higher, or lower than above?

Thanks a lot

I took it
got an 18 overall in science (didnt finish due to gchem)
got 22's in the rest except for reading comp, i got a 21. Honestly i thought the test was too easy, except for bio which had way too much ecology and plant stuff for my tastes.

anybody else that has taken this test?

I think Kaplan science is easier than topscore/achiever IMO. For the RC, I'm getting b/n 17-20's on topscore/achiever. However, on the final for Kaplan, I came out with a 14...don't understand..LOL I think b/c I freaked out that there were only 6 paragraphs for the first passage so I though I was wasting my time practicing...I dunno

manyak you scared me....so if this test is really easy..then I am screwed

Well the math was super easy and so was the reading comp and pat. its the first time i finished the pat and my first reading comp test. i thought the gchem was tough, though. if you're not doing too hot on that math you better study cuz im not that good at it and i killed it with like 5 minutes to spare

I will say dont worry about math too much, do some practice and you should be fine. As for pat, I did finish the real test on time but it was a little rush..dont really have time to go over some answers. For gchem, i never got over 18,,but end up getting a 25 on the real test. hope this help

I thought it was fairly representative of the real test, in general. The biggest difference btwn that and the real thing was that I'd already learned the concepts I missed on the Kaplan, so I didn't get it wrong on the real test.

but yea, the difficulty level's close. so if you're getting 17's and 18's.... that may be an indication that you have to pick up the pace a bit.

There are LOTS of people who got those kind of scores and are now hanging out the the Low Stats Thread. Only a few are comfortably in the 20+'s club.

Thats funny, I seem to remember you boasting time and time again that you didn't study for the test. I wonder why one who supposedly didn't study would take a Kaplan practice test?

yep. I said I didn't study, not really. That's not to say that I didn't practice. Note the usage/choice of words. but now I'm gonna have to study cuz I got to teach the class...hrmmm....

and it's kinda disconcerting now, since if I HAD studied like everybody else, maybe I coulda gotten a 25-26 AA. Dang... oh well....

A play on words leave it to a law student to to put a spin on it. Just a FYI to tell your future students.... "PRACTICING" is studying. Or I guess, I can assume your definition and say I didn't study either.

anybody else taken this test yet???

I thought the kaplan cd was a little easier than the real exam as well. the reason why you rocked the workshop rc and did poorly on the kaplan cd could be because on the kaplan CD your sitting through NS and PAT before reaching the RC. if i take the RC section by itself, i usually score pretty well, however, if i take it after the NS and PAT, due to some exhaustion i don't perform quite as well. having said that, the kaplan CD was the first thing i took out of like...10 practice exams and i pulled all around 20 or above with the exception of QR and RC. im not sure if you have to postpone, that really depends on how fast you practice. but i think maybe 2 or so weeks of intensive practice should well prepare you. get topscore and achiever and practice with those.

oh come on ..let's not get toooo smart here.

anybody else want to comment on my score? thanks

restrategize for the RC. you're doing something inefficient if you're getting a 16. you should be getting 3/4 or 4/5 questions correct. it's mostly a bunch of recall questions. no thinking invoved. how much easier can that get?

To the OP. Actually Kaplan reading tests are a little harder than other reading test and the real thing. Have you taken other practice tests from resources other than Kaplan? If so have you been scoring close to the same in reading? Your science scores do not look to bad with a little more practice you should hit 20+. Good Luck.

Oh poor jkh1886.... I am sorry I seem to have hurt your feelings.

more like.... disappointed some of my peers can't read. You added a series of meanings to a statement I made that wasn't there. And based on those additions, you came up to an illogical conclusion.

my advice to all in the RC.... determinely precisely what the author is saying. Don't broaden/narrow the scope of his arguments. Many Q's on reading comp tests (including those on the LSAT and MCAT) exploit the tendency for students to read onto a passage something it's not saying.

It cracks me up when people try to sound intelligent, then it kicks them from behind. When you make a statement like you did above, "more like.... disappointed some of my peers can't read " and you use the word peers, it puts you on the same level as the person or in this case people you are trying to degrade. Incase you aren't sure what I am referring to let me help out by adding the definition of peer.

Peer- a person who is of equal standing with another in a group [syn: peer, equal, match]

Best of luck to you jkh1886!👍

To the OP, I wouldn't worry too much about your scores. When I took the practice exams on the Kaplan CD, I recieved about the same scores that you did (maybe even a little lower in some areas). For every subject, I did much better on the actual exam except for maybe RC and QR. If you want to improve your score for RC my advice would be to keep practicing until you find a strategy that works for you. There is no other way to conquer RC. As far as PAT goes, your score looks really good, but watch out for the angle ranking section because in my opionion this section was harder on the actual exam than on the Kaplan practice exams. Also, make sure you are studying the questions that you get wrong on the practice exams so that you will learn from your mistakes.

ive taken topscore yesterday, and also the kaplan stuff, and totally dont stress out. i was getting like 14 and 15 in gc and ochem on kaplan, but got bmped up in topscore, along with rc, which on kaplan i would get like 18's on. when i took topscore, i got a 29 in rc....dont stress out too much, just do what you can, thats all you can do

Oh dear God! Trying too hard, my man. there's nothing wrong with that phrase. It's a fairly common usage. "Peer" is a proper word here.

Unless of course, you're suggesting that when I say peer to suggest our age group or predental status, that term peer MUST necessarily refer to intellectual status as well.

Either you just chose a definition of the word that conveniently made the usage improper [and decided it best to ignore a more fitting definition], OR you're a minority that is having problems with English skills.... hmmmm

let's see how petty this man'll make of this...

but LET'S kiss and make up, as someone suggested. I'll bend over and you....:meanie: 😀
