My pcom My pcom why have thou forsaken me?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just stumbled across this thread... PCOM was one of 3 schools I hadn't heard from, I thought it was weird but now I see they're just slow! I got accepted in California last November so I figured I would wait to see if I had other options (just in case Stanford called!) but when I heard nothing I just figured my husband hid the letter so I wouldn't interview across the country! LOL. Now I see they are really really slow... also, who was complaining about cost of living? HA! try the San Francisco Bay area!
oh, yea a fun thing to do when writing responses to not accept either another offer or to be taken off the waitlist is to use their own "language''. Mine read something like... "as you know applying to medical school can be very competitive so accepting the right medical school is a difficult choice, I regret to inform you I will be attending medical school elsewhere..."
Oh, it felt so good to send those letters out!
I am soooo excited! Med school here I come! Good luck everyone!

3.5 25M, rejection no interview. Due to mistake by pre-med advisor, my LOR didn't arrive till January 😱

Fu(k the Phildelphia schools. They only take in state people and rarely take out of staters. I applied to PCOM and Drexel and they both rejected me even though my specs were way above them. 3.73 GPA 31MCAT! What the hell?, I could have stepped on PCOM.

Woahhh....relax dude. I am from NY and I got into PCOM.

Numbers prove nothing and, no, they dont accept only "instaters."

More than 40% of PCOM's students come from out of state.

LoL There must of been something wrong with your app. I'm from Va and I was accepted to PCOM.

If all of you are having good experiences with PCOM, then maybee they just didn't like me for some reason and I overdid it.

Maybe, but the aggressive stance you took just before made you look like an a$$. However, I have seen many of your posts and you are not so I was surprised.

PCOM admissions e-mailed me and said that for the entering class of 2005 the average science and cumulative g.p.a's were 3.2 and the average MCAT was 24.

Ahh they're making that number lower than what it really is. It's probably more like 3.5 and 30+

They're telling USNews and World Report that it's 24 so all of us desperate people can send that $150 secondary there

Sorry, bad joke. It just randomly popped into my head.

Don't say that!!! It's not even about the numbers!!!
My issue was more the fact that I got invited to interview @ every other osteopathic school I applied to (CCOM, AZCOM, KCOM) but not PCOM, so to me that means they are the "outlier" not me! 😱

Maybe they had already gotten a lot of other interviewees lined up and I just did not make it for whatever reason. I am not bitter, like I said earlier... THEIR LOSS!

dude, if u were OOS, then why did u apply 2 philly schools that u believe take only IS ppl? and drexel, btw, takes a huge %age of OOS ppl (esp from cali) since they r a private school; i dunno about PCOM but i got rejected from there as well and my MCAT was higher than urs, so its more than just numbers. maybe the DO schools felt like u were using them as backups with ur numbers, dunno. temple and penn state show *some* IS preference but even then, they also take OOS ppl so maybe ur 'tude was part of the problem?

That attitute certainly wouldn't get you an interview! :scared:

Sorry about bringing this up again guys, but I have so really wierd news for everyone.

It seemed that Philadelphia decided to send me a second rejection letter. Yes that's right, they sent me another one. At first I was like, "Wait a second, this might be the school in Georgia," but when I looked very closely at the envelope, it was definantly the school in Philadelphia. Same letter head and return address as the Philadelphia school.

And I was like, "Well I'll be dog gone they must hate my guts." ~ they sent me two letters of rejection!

Does this mean I doubly suck then?

Then I opened the letter and saw that the letter was for the Gerogia school, but the paper had Philadelphia's letter head and return address on it - which had me still fooled for a moment and had to read carefully to make sure they were not sending me a second rejection letter.

Man, that would have sucked for me had they sent me 2X letters of rejection.

However PCOM gives out much larger percentage of interviews to in-state applicants. Check out their website for recent data.

Accepted four years ago: VA resident, GPA: 3.75, MCAT: 28, public health experience beween college and medical school. Thus they do look closely at your medical experience.
Good luck to all of you.

Oh thats harshhhhh.....lol

Good luck Cats. I hope to see you there next year. 🙂

any one find it strange that pcom has yet to send me a rejection letter (i have had confirmation that my app is complete)?? in addition to this, they also lost my LOR's which were sent last august. low and behold, if im going to spend a load of money on apps, the least they could do is send a rejection letter!!

thank heavens for nycom...

by this time...no letter = rejection letter..get over it

I can sort of sympathize with that poster tho. I applied to Howard and got an email saying I may get interviewed. Its not post-May 15 and I havn't heard anything which is obviously a rejection. The least they could do is send one.
