Hello, I am dental school student in Asia.
I want to start with asking you to excuse my short English.
(Moreover, this post will be long. Sorry and thanks for reading.)
As I stated above, I am presently dental school student.
My school has 6 year program which is 2 + 4 system.
In first 2 year, as a preparatory course, we study general basic science.
Next 4 year is the same with US program, we study regular dentistry.
I became 20 years old this winter and I just finished my first year at my school.
I am graduating my dental school on February, 2016 and get DDS degree(I will be 25 then).
Hoping to be US OMFS, I did some research.
I found out that it is a real tough way but I made a plan and want you to see and give me some feed back.
when I became 25 years old in 2016, I get my dds degree and license.
Then I will start to work as a pay doctor and apply to IDP program on that very year I graduated, if I get admission, I will enter to IDP program in 2017.
(I hope that I could go to UCSF but I heard this school is quite competitive and needs kinda lot of money)
In this period, I will stay in US by F1(Student) visa.
When I finish the program, I am 28 and the time is 2019.
I think then I have my license and qualification to apply for match process.
But as OMFS residency program requires permanent residency, I think of doing internship(I am not sure what 'externship' and 'internship' means... I know what is internship but it seems different from where I study...) for a couple of years until I get my permanent residency. If I can't apply as intern status, then I will work as general dentist in private practice(I hope I get paid).
after that, I will apply for OMFS 6 year residency program.
If I get in, then I am 30 and when everything is over, I become 36.
After that, I am not sure what to do, due to my ignorance.
I am not fully introduced to dentistry and I don't know where I would want to choose between working in academic field or opening private practice.
.
.
.
I know this whole story is such a ridiculous and absurd.
You may say 'Before you plan that, finish your dental school'
I know how hard to get in to IDP, and more, OMFS residency program.
I know OMFS residency program is allowed only for a few VERY brilliant applicant.
But I will work hard and I hope I can make it.
So, please give me some feedback.
I want to know if there is something wrong on my plan.
(ex. 'you can't get green card in 2 years')
I want to know how hard to follow my plan or detail numbers about my plans.
Oh, something more.
I am not rich-to be frank, I am poor, I don't even have money to go to university so I am receiving scholarship now...- so do you think that my income after getting OMFS specialty can handle my debt and my living cost?
I have never been to US and have no one to help me about these topic.
Every advice is highly appreciated.
Thank you for reading 🙂

My English is not that bad compare to my asian colleagues, but I know that It's not that fluent.. Sorry again.]
