Been rejected from UNLV and Midwestern so far...

Applied to:

UCSF
UCLA
Western
USC
Boston
Maryland
Harvard
ASDOH
NYU

Done secondaries for UCSF, UCLA, Western, ASDOH

Haven't heard anything from the rest in terms of secondaries.

What now?

...you wait..patiently? not sure what you be gettin at.

from what i gather, the rest of those schools dont have a secondary (except Maryland: they email it to you if they think you are competitive for interview i believe)

I think he applied before he took his DAT.

Well you still have big schools left like BU, NYU and USC... shouldn't panic at this stage but I understand how you feel...

your gpa will probably hold you back. maybe look for an informal post-bacc and apply for masters in bio?

I feel like I won't make it through this cycle, but I'll be ready for round 2 next year, and round 3 after that!

I'm already looking into 1 year masters programs.

As for interview invites, I haven't gotten any.

Obviously, USC and NYU and the others are the big schools so we shall see how it goes.

My worst fear is that I'll get a secondary from a school but it'll go in my junk folder (that I check everyday) and that'd I'd miss it somehow.

Are the secondaries for the other schools I've mentioned available??

Check the AADSAS page that has all the secondary info. It should tell you which schools have what.

Y did you complete your app? your DAT scores are probably not in yet. My DAT 8/13 is not in for any of the school.

How does NYU send out interview invites? So far I'm out from UCSF, Midwestern and UNLV.

Are there any other schools sending out invites?

Predents.com You can see invites there. Or check the main thread about invites.

Try picking up good morale character and good skills, and be confident on what you are.

USC: gave them $$, nothing yet
Boston: NOTHING
Maryland: nohing
Harvard: nothing
ASDOH: done 2nd, $$, called them to see what's up and the lady said the longer they look at your app, the better. she said it was good news and gave me quite a bit of hope! <3
NYU: nothing yet

Haven't heard anything from the rest in terms of secondaries.

It's like...October 1st. What do I make of my situation?

Don't worry, we are all in the same boat. I think after October 31st is when your chances drop dramatically for pre-dec/non-rolling admission schools; however, schools like BU, NYU, USC, Western, do interviews post-dec with still a relative high amount of acceptance. That being said, don't worry!

I think you should mentally prepare that you had a long shot to get into a school with your stats. If it happens be grateful but not expected. Your low sci and average dat scores is a factor that schools are most likely not going to accept because of the quality of applicants.

Dental schools need to know that you can handle the sci curriculum for the first 2 years and having a 2.9 sci does not really do any justice. I think you should start looking into master programs because this will most likely be the route you need to take.

I am not trying to be rude but the reality is very few non URM get into schools with those stats.

I haven't heard anything from the schools that haven't reject you either. Wait until Dec 1. then panic

Your DAT and GPA are slightly on the low side for non-minority, however i think even with those stats, you can still get in to a dental school. You have to apply smart!

Do not rush in to a random masters program! post bac in higher level science classes usually are better than masters programs. But consult an admissions rep before you spend the money.

I think your greatest mistake is in your school choices. With your current stats, I think Harvard, NYU, UCLA, UCSF, Maryland, UoP, Midwestern and maybe BU were all out of question. These schools are very stats based.
That means you are essentially applying to ASDOH, USC, UNLV and western.

ASDOH is very focused on ECs, do you have that many volunteer hours? if you do then this pick is justified

USC is a good pick

UNLV is a school for people with high RC scores, they use a formula that heavily weighs RC. You have an 18 which is mediocre.

Western is a good pick

I think you should do a little more research and see if you can add more schools. Remember, application fee is a very small cost compare to tuition you will be paying when you attend dental school.

If you can, you should retake your DAT! if you can pull off 21AA or higher, it will show dental schools that you can do well on tests and potentially can pass dental school

Yeah I'm pretty optimistic about ASDOH for some reason. I have good EC's

I am one of these people who believes everyone has a chance to get in. But the real dilema is...how much of a chance?

I think with your stats (and the ONLY one I see that is really hurting you is that science GPA) you shoulda aimed at 20+ schools (thats just my opinion)

And I think you need a better selection of schools....some of the schools you applied to (IMO) were a waste of money (harvard?).

If I were you, I would start looking at what I can do to improve myself for next year (just incase I don't get in this cycle), start preparing from right now, next cycle starts in 9 months.

good luck to ya

still haven't heard diddly-squat from any of the schools. No secondaries requested from all the schools except Western, UNLV, ASDOH, Midwestern. Nothing from the others. FML.

You should call ASDOH and Midwestern, because those secondaries should be sent to you once you meet the 2.7 gpa cut off. Good luck

patience brotha,
just wait good things will come your way... Nothing more you can do & its not in your hands.

why did you apply to Harvard?

why not? my DAT was lower than his/hers and I interviewed there no problem (actually my 1st interview). (to forsee the question, i don't know if i got in, cause i withdrew my applications after i got in UCSF)

there's this mythical trend on SDN that DAT is THE #1 most important thing..well, newsflash. If you are top notch elsewhere, it will be considered. many adcoms realize what a terrible way it is to judge someone based on one exam.

As to the OP's Q, you wait.

Well what was your GPA? I think the reason people are asking "why Harvard" is because the OP has a lower-than-average GPA and a decent DAT; making the overall app a little less competitive. Therefore, applying to a really high stat school like harvard was prob not the best idea.

Did you not receive a secondary request from UCSF or UCLA?

4.0

I'm not so worried about the schools that have gotten my secondaries, rather more worried about the ones who....after 2 months, still have sent me a secondary.

UCLA has its secondary on its website. download it and complete it while you wait for their email.

2PacClone, there is nothing you can do about the schools you have applied to, but if you do apply next year make sure to do your research before you apply to schools like Harvard, UCLA, and UCSF because you have a sGPA of 2.9.
Those are ultra-competitive schools.

For now, just get straight A's and take sciences in the spring, you may have to wait until the spring to hear anything from dental schools, so just be patient and focus on school.

Did you call each school and made sure that you have everything in? Make sure to do that.
