Hi everyone! I will be posting and contributing to this thread on a periodic basis as a personal log as to how my pre-requisite coursework comes. Hopefully, in 2 years, I will have earned a spot somewhere for the fall 2006 entering class. A little about myself: I am 26 and have been out of college for a few years. It was really by chance that I met a now good friend that introduced me to dentistry and I really took a liking to it immediately. I have not completed any science courses (currently taking an intro Chem course) so I am at square one. I am motivated however and admire the detrmination of my fellow pre-dents that are attempting to get into what I feel is one of the best careers in the country. Good luck to everyone.

Hey there.....There are plenty of people out there who are returning students in pre-dental after doing something else, including myself. There should be a lot of good info already in the past messages or you can always ask questions should you have any. Hopefully you have talked to an advisor in a dental school. They will tell you what you need to do courswise. A lot of people on this site have found that undergrad advisors aren't nearly as helpful, though there are exceptions. Anyways, best of luck to you...and remember.... all this chem, bio, etc (except physics) are all on the DAT so retain as much as you can!

Best of luck!

one more thing....in the last message I said that Dental advisors would tell you what you need coursewise.... they also can tell you all the little (or not so little) things you need to do such as shadowing, volunteering...

Quick update for anyone who cares. Since my last post in this thread, I quit my job at a Fortune 500 Company (July), and started full-time scool in September. I am really enjoying school this time around. Back when I graduated from a UC in 2001 I could not wait to get out and start earning money, but now, I am not in so much of a rush, even though I am eager to get into a D school. I have completed the intro chem, chem 1, chem 2, Cell Bio, and Physics 1, all with B's and A's.
This last semester was tough taking the 3 science coruses at once. I also run a carpet cleaning business but reduced my jobs way down, and was bartending part-time for half the quarter. I really am enjoying chemistry, I despise physics and found bio to be easy, yet difficult at the same time. By difficult I mean that although the material is easy enough to grasp, there is so much to memorize that at time I was left feeling very frustrated and with the 3 science courses, I found it to be too much at times with new exams, lab exams etc, popping up almost every week. I am thinking about cutting down my sciences to 2 this coming quarter to really focus on them and get A's, but really want to get them done as soon as possible, so we shall see. I know that last quarter I did not let up or slack off at all and got 2 B's and a B+. Obviously, these are good grades but I want to do better, any advice? I just feel that 3 science courses at once limits my time to master the material with all the hours that I spend in scool between lectures and labs. BTW, I work around 15 hours a week with the business
