Hey everyone, I was wondering what you guys thought of my stats and perhaps what you think my chances are of getting accepted for my first cycle. I have been feeling a bit discouraged from the few rejections I have received thus far, and any encouragement would help and be greatly appreciated. I wish all of you the best of luck!

University: Western Michigan University
Major: Exercise Science:
Undergrad GPA: 3.59
GRE: 150 V, 150 Q, 3.0 AW (I know my writing score is pretty low/average, but I have talked to several people and even PTs who had the same score and they got into schools, so I’m trying not to worry too much about it lol)

Extracurriculars/Experience/Achievements: Recipient of a full athletic scholarship, played Division I Tennis at Western Michigan University, Deans list for nearly all semesters of my undergraduate studies, Academic All-MAC honors, All-MAC Second Team honors, Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors, Worked 80+ hours as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Dog-sitter through Rover for over 3 years, Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification through the American Red Cross

Volunteer
Volunteered at the Color Run, Volunteered at local downtown church for an entire weekend preparing and serving meals to the homeless and poor, Volunteered as a student-athlete at a local middle school’s fall festival

Observation Hours
450 hours Outpatient -- At an outpatient sports medicine clinic with two different therapists. I saw a variety of patient populations/diagnoses such as: sports/athletics, geriatric, neurological, pediatric and orthopedic/musculoskeletal.

30 hours Inpatient -- Shadowed one physical therapist in an acute rehab unit at a hospital and saw a lot of the following: geriatrics, orthopedic/musculoskeletal, cardiovascular/pulmonary, integumentary (wound management).

LORs:
2 from Physical Therapists (shadowed both of them for an extended period of time)
1 from Exercise Science professor (taught me several classes in my undergraduate studies as an Exercise Science major)

Applied: Ohio State, Walsh, Toledo, Ohio U, Temple, Thomas Jefferson, Gannon (Erie), WVU, Marshall, Grand Valley State, Rosalind Franklin, Indianapolis, George Washington, Maryland (Baltimore), New England, MGH Institute of Health Professions, Medical University of South Carolina, High Point, Wheeling Jesuit, South College

Yes, I realize I applied to a ton of schools. This was my first time applying and I wanted to give myself a better chance at being accepted. I was also (and still am) super nervous lol.

Accepted: None so far (still anxiously waiting)
Rejected: Thomas Jefferson, MGH Institute of Health Professions, Ohio U
Waitlisted: Waitlisted to interview at Toledo (was told they interview 130 applicants and I was in the top 20% of the 120applicants on the waitlist so it's possible I could get chosen?), waitlisted to interview at Uindy (but they said their waitlist was extensive so its doubtful I'll get offered an interview)

Did you interview at the schools that you were rejected from or they just sent a rejection letter?

I think the only problem would be if schools have a minimum writing requirement. I have seen a lot requiring a 4.0

I did not apply to schools that required a 4.0
Did you hear back from University of New England or temple? I applied to both and haven’t even heard from temple. Last email I got was my application was under review which was roughly a month ago. I emailed them about 3 weeks ago to see the status and they said I should hear within 2-4 weeks, so I’m hoping to hear soon!!! Fingers crossed for us!!

Hey. No, unfortunately I have not heard from either. I emailed Temple 11/15 to check and they said "You should be receiving an update on your application within the next four to six weeks." so I guess the waiting game shall continue lol. Last I heard from UNE, my application was still under review -- this was on 10/30.

Hey thank you for your response! Temple told me the same thing but I believe they have a shorter timeframe like 2-4 weeks lol it’s approaching the 4th week and I haven’t heard anything 🙁. As far as UNE, when did you apply?

I heard from UNE within around a week for an interview but a friend of mine took time. So sometimes I feel like it’s just luck.

This is the biggest problem I see in an otherwise solid application. I know it's too late for this current cycle; however if you have to apply again next year I would advise retaking the GRE and obtaining a AWA of at least a 4. This will greatly increase your chances of getting into PT schools.

Not trying to derail the thread but when did you apply to UNE? I applied on Sept. 28 and have yet to hear back from them besides the initial "we got your application" email.

Around September 30 and hear back by the 9th of October

Do you mind sharing your stats? I applied to UNE as well and my stats are average :/
Sure. I graduated quite a few years ago so I spent most of that time retaking courses I did poorly in. I only chose schools that accepted the higher grade for retaken courses (UNE is one of those schools.)

My pGPA for UNE is 3.75
My cGPA is a 3.03
GRE is 157 V, 148 Q 4.0 AWA (I did rather poorly in the quantitative and AWA since I started to crack under the pressure. I decided not to retake it due to costs and the fact that these meet the school's minimums.)

My extracurriculars involves a significant leadership role: I founded and led my university's first fitness club for the 4 years I attended. Taught many people how to workout effectively and wrote a 100 page how-to book on the ins and outs of weight training. I made sure to have my application essays to focus on that extracurricular experience since it parallels physical therapy.

I felt quite confident about my application, so it's surprising that I have yet to hear back from them. Nevertheless I feel pretty good about the other 2 schools I applied to. If push comes to shove and I don't don't get into any program this cycle I'll have to improve my GRE scores and volunteer at more PT settings.

EDIT. Typo.

We have very similar stats and I just received my first acceptance so don't give up. It's good that you applied to a lot of schools. That way you will at least have options

Congratulations on your acceptance!! Where did you decide to attend?

I believe that you have a strong pre-req GPA backed by good GRE scores. To be honest I think that most schools look More towards the AWA and V which are really good! I have very similar stats and I actually re- took some pre- reqs as well to get a better grade! Fingers crossed here but I think you have A very good chance On getting accepted this cycle! Keep us updated!!

MGH IHP requires a minimum of 3.5 for the AWA.
I did contact them and they said that the minimum requirements were just a general recommendation and that they encourage applicants to apply even if they don't necessarily meet the same GRE scores -- they told me that they look at the entire application as a whole. But oh well, not worried about it because I was rejected anyways lol

Just out of curiosity, did you ever get accepted to any of those schools you applied to?
