Hey guys, I was hoping to gain acceptance to USyd's dental program and had a few questions for anyone who might be at all knowledgeable in this area (and when I say hoping I really mean I have an absolute burning desire to get into this specific program, lol). I'm currently in the US, graduating in May with a BA in Bio (chem minor), and will have my application out by the end of that month. Would anyone happen to have any tips that I could use? I'll just fire off some questions that have plagued me for a while:
- What are ideal overall GPA/sci GPA/DAT scores??
- Do shadowing hours, community service, letters of rec, specific courses taken or not taken carry any weight with the application?
- What can I do to make my application stand out from the rest (outside of academics)?
- I hear getting an interview isn't as difficult as it is in the states. If this is indeed true, then is it the interview that is the biggest determining factor?
I currently have a 3.6 overall GPA, 3.55 sci GPA, and DAT scores shown below:
PAT: 21
QR: 19
RC: 23
BIO: 23
GC: 29
OC: 23
Total Science: 24
AA: 23
I understand the program is only accepting 15 international students. I can't even guess as to how many international applicants they have each year. I'm trying to go into this optimistically but, at the same time, with a realistic idea of what my chances are.
Thanks so much for your help anyone and everyone. I'm sort of wandering in the dark..
