I took the NBDE part 1 in Sep 2008, scored 94, which was 97%. My raw score were:
ana 90
biochem 75
path 90
da 89
I graduated from a Chinese dental school in 1995. Since that, I came to US as a basic researcher, then a house wife --- have done nothing about dental. On my third child's first birthday, I decided to back to be a dentist. At that point, my three kids were 1,3,5,years old. They stayed home with me all the time, except the oldest went to school 3 hours per day, and I have to drove him to school. I was 36 years old. For most things in the NBDE part 1, I learned them 17 years ago ALL IN CHINESE WORDS.
I spend one year to relearn the knowledge. 2-4 hours per day EVERY day. Then I use four months to prepare the test, 10 hours per day. I think the dental deck were the biggest helper, as well as the old test items ADA released. I went through the decks 4 times, cleared and tried to remember every thing on its back. I also did every test item, released and unreleased. Forget the Kaplan Q bank. That wasted many of my time and useless, except the DA questions.
I was thinking to apply the two-year program. That's the reason I did such hard work to make sure I could get score above 90. Later on I found it didn't worth for our whole family moving to a new city. So I applied the regular 4 years program locally. I got in very easily because my high NBDE score. I didn't take DAT.
Now I'm a busy DS1 student and mother of three. I may not have time to reply your questions. I do want to thank this forum and all the viewers. I benefit a lot from here.
Good luck, keep going, you can make it!
