So, before I start talking about my situation, I was taken off private school at 6th grade, and did homeschooling with FLVS for 6 years. In that time, I finished up my middle school and high school required classes and then started dual enrollment. I was eligible to graduate highschool at the age of 14, however, I did not because dual enrollment allowed me to participate in college classes at my local CC (St. Petersburg college) for free. Imagine how weird it is for a 14 year old to be around people who are typically between the ages of 18-50. Last year I graduated from my highschool with a GPA of 3.9, and this summer I'm graduating with an A.A. degree holding a GPA of 3.87. In between I have volunteered, been in two summer long mission trips (one was a medical trip to Zambia), and shadowed a few doctors.
This sounds amazing, and every professor I talk to says I have no challenges getting accepted to any medical school. However, there is a problem. When I was 14, I went to my college advisor and requested for premed courses. Instead of pre-med courses, I was signed up for pre nursing. So, my year and a half of anatomy, as well as microbiology, isn't taken as credit for premed classes. On top of that I have completed 72 credits and I'm not able to repeat them due to a "credit limit" law in Florida that doubles the tuition per credit after a certain number has been reached. This infuriates me as my only options are to get my BSN, and then do the pre requisites all over again to apply to an MD (if I'm hopeful) or DO; or apply for an out of state school. I'm leaning towards the BSN since I'm not applicable to receive scholarships and I do need the money. I am Hispanic, however my family makes over 75k, which defaults me into an individual who does not need any financial aid, furthermore, my parents are not going to pay for my college which leaves me stuck with the BSN route as I do not want to have 200k in student loans when I graduate.
More information, I have not completed more than one chemistry class, physics, or Biology as I was told by my advisors to focus on Anatomy and Physiology.
Any Tips?
