I would only include a sports-related activity if you have competed in it. There's a big leap in commitment between someone who just rolls for fun and someone who is training for a match. I mentioned both competing in powerlifting and boxing on my application, which gave me interesting talking points during the interview process.

If you actively compete in judo (almost as if it were a college sport), I would mention it in your extracurricular section. If you don't, I might try to integrate it into your personal statement or even the manual dexterity portion of your application (you can talk about the hand-eye coordination you have developed from judo 🙂 )

Not sure where this crazy rule of you have to compete for it to count as an extra curricular comes from. OP it's something extra you are doing to everything else, it's an extracurricular.

It’s not a rule, it’s an opinion. I do bjj as a hobby, but I wouldn’t put it as an extracurricular. It’d just seem like a filler. Anyone can “do bjj.” On the other hand I’ve won some surf competitions, and I merged them all into one “accomplishment.” No interviewer even asked about it, so I doubt this is something that even matters (unless it’s a world record, D1 level, or on a professional circuit).
