I go searching for this from time to time, and I know others do to, so here is a good, easy to look at list for 2006 data:

http://www.uspharmd.com/student/2006_Naplex_Passing_Rate.html

If anyone knows of a similar list for 2007 data, please let me know.

It's not the 2007 data, but it's pretty comprehensive. It's also worth noting that 2006 was the year the NAPLEX format was changed. Most pass rates dropped markedly after that.

Wingate is not even on there. I guess they just graduated there first class last year.

USN had a 99.9% pass rate last year. . . I'm sheltered otherwise.

Knick these rates are all too close to be that relevant.

Say school A has 89 students and 1 fails - 98.8764%

School B has 90 students and 2 fail - 97.8261%

School C has 70 students and none fail - 100%

on this list their ranks would fall

A - 8th
B - 15th
C - Tied 1st

I personally wouldn't discriminate over either school based on these numbers. Unless they were like sub 90 or something... TSU cough cough

Yeah...

Actual score distributions would be more useful. I'm willing to bet that the ranking would be similar.

You can see trends even among 90%+

Ohio State graduated twice as many people last year, and yet had a higher pass percent than they did 4 years ago.

Midwestern Glendale has been rising the last 4 years, while the Chicago location is just all over the place.

South Dakota has 4 out of the last 5 classes going 100%

University of LA Monroe has actually gotten worse the past few years.

i apologize ahead of time if this is a rookie question; why does the NAPLEX passing percentage matter? how does it make one program superior over another program, I'm failing to see the significance here.

---thanks!

It shows one of the following:

a) quality of students a school takes
b) ability of school to prepare students for the NAPLEX (and thus pharmacy)
c) both a and b
d) none of the above
e) all of the above

so you actually think that passing an exam consisting of 150 question is a good representation of how good of a pharmacist someone is? i beg your pardon...

i think it's important because if the passing rate is like 50%...they may not be teaching you exactly what you need to know, thus you fail the NAPLEX and waste a couple of months studying for the next one when you could already be making money after passing it the first time--that's how i see it

You're putting words in his mouth.

Remember, you don't become a pharmacist just by passing the NAPLEX, you still need to also graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy. The combination of those two helps in determining such a representation. If you can't pass the NAPLEX I wouldn't want you as my pharmacist. The NAPLEX isn't some test someone pulled out of their arse. Its continually refined by people in the industry to test a minimum standard of acceptable knowledge to work as a pharmacists.

I thought the Naplex exam consists of 500ish MCs...not 150🙄

the test could also show how well the graduated students prepared for the exam and how well they put everything they learned together to draw conclusions to test questions.

i can't say it's necessarily the schools fault if a student passes or fails. they give the student the information. it's up to them to process, learn and apply the knowledge.

Woohooooooooo... UH had a 100% passing rate last year!!!

Well....yes, because as a pharmacist you have to know a lot of stuff or you're going to get yelled at by doctors or patients or the pharmacy manager. You'd better know your stuff. And the NAPLEX exam is a way to measure your knowledge acquired from your pharmacy school and how much you really know. I don't want my pharmacist to be incompetent. Do you?

Just wanted to say that the stats are from the Classes of 2006 (so 2 years ago). The Class of 2007 NAPLEX pass rates are out too, just not on NABP yet. If anyone wants to know the new stats for the schools they're interested in, they can contact current students (current students *should* know), or contact the admissions office itself.

that link has the stats for 2007

Really? I didn't know that. I hope it's a rumor. Maybe it has something to do with it getting approved for pre-candidate or candidate.

That is pretty good considering it is a new school. Thanks for the link!

I've heard that Wingate was on probation when they started couple years back. Does anyone know the full story?

Really? I didn't know that. I hope it's a rumor. Maybe it has something to do with it getting approved for pre-candidate or candidate.

First let me disclose that I am a current student at Wingate University School of Pharmacy. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education has never placed Wingate on "probation." We were granted pre-candidate status our first year, candidate status our 2nd and 3rd, and full accreditation after graduation of the first class. (link: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/shared_info/accredHistory.asp?entity=63 )

With regards to NAPLEX pass rates we had one student who did not pass the first time, but he did pass on his second attempt, so...put Wingate down with the 100% pass rate! Yay Wingate!

I just came across this link to passing rates and of curious I looked up my alma mater and saw it was BOTTOM... sheesh.

Passing rate of .76

Meaning 1 out of 4 students fail.. amazing.... !!

Come on Brooklyn,, what happened to you guys.. sheesh 🙂

I was a 2.75 student.... knowing all that was important in school was to pass NAPLEX, not better grades in school and studied a few weeks before the exam and passed easily... and knowing some straight A students failed.. amazing.

Now here I am graduated back in 1980 and having to retake NAPLEX to work in Florida when we move there soon.

This is going to be interesting... retaking NAPLEX after almost 28 years has passed since I graduated and I only have been working in phamacy, retail pharmacy p/t for 5 years now...

Any comments please send them,,,
(write me privately as I will get those easier)
What to study ?
Pronto Pass
APHA
Kaplan
etc.

Thanks and come on Brooklyn,,, get off the bottom of the list 🙂

Michael

When I opened this link it shows results for the MPJE, not the Naplex. The MPJE is the law exam. The Naplex is a completely different exam.

Alright Kids - The very first link shows NAPLEX passing rates... The links that follow show the MPJE pass rates...

Now both are important -> but the NAPLEX determines whether or not you are a pharmacist - the MPJE determines where you can practicce.

Let us not pass incorrect information...

My point may have been misunderstood. I was commenting on the fact that this thread is titled "Naplex pass rates" not "MPJE pass rates". It was apparent to me that the pre-pharmacy students' comments that followed the posting of the MPJE link indicated they were confusing the two exams. While both are required to become a practicing pharmacist, people are generally more interested in the Naplex first time pass rate. As soon as I receive my ATT letter from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, I should be sitting for both exams in June.

What the hell? You have to take two exams???

Some states require 3 exams to be licensed. Some require a wet compounding or counseling exam.

Do remember that 90+% of all pharmacy students pass the NAPLEX - do you think that the standards may be too low to push out more pharmacists into the health care system?
