NASM Certification

I am starting my DPT program in the Fall and I have an opportunity to get my NASM personal training certificate with a really great discount through my work right now. I think this can help by giving me another perspective of the body and additional knowledge about fitness. Plus I can possibly do personal training on the side (which I have some experience with already) while in the DPT program for extra money. The only downside is that NASM is very expensive, and although I can get it at a discount, it is still not cheap! Do you think this is worth the investment? Also does any PT here have a training certification, and if so does that help when it comes to patient care? Thank you very much.

I would recommend the CSCS, it is the highest form of personal training you can get as it requires you to have a bachelors degree. Many PT's now have it as it makes you more marketable to work with athletes.

Thank you very much guys! I talked to some PTs that I know and they also said the same thing. I will start looking into prices and all of that. I am excited for the doors that it will open.

if you are currently an undergrad student like myself, you can join the NSCA for around $60 and that membership will get you aboyt $130 off of the exam. Thats my plan.

I have both NASM and ACE certifications. I’d say what the others said, get your CSCS instead. NASM is basically a wannabe physical therapy certification based on outdated research that might just frustrate you more than anything. CSCS will give you everything you need to know to actually train people.
