When checking out school information, what passing rates are considered acceptable to you? 60% (for the first-time test takers)? 70%? At least 80%? Doesn't matter?

Personally, I think the passing rates should be pretty high (in the 80%-90%+ range) for first-time test takers. If the program that you graduated from doesn't think that you'll do well on the exam within the first 2 attempts, then they probably shouldn't let you graduate from that program. Plus, their passing rate is a reflection on their program, so they WANT a high passing rate!

That's just my opinion though; that was definitely a factor for me when deciding where to apply to and where I eventually accepted to go. It gave me an indication of how well prepared students from different programs were for the exam.

I heard 2009 is the year when the exam format was changed and the passing rates in general were low. The problem for me is that some schools put 2009-2011 stat on their sites but others use 2010-2012 stat.

I think if you see a score in the 60s for several years on a row it probably isn't a good sign. I agree that 80% should be the minimum to consider a program but that's my opinion. For example I didn't apply to York cuny bc their scores have been low 70-60.
