Hello everybody! I appeared for nbde part1 two weeks back. I wanted to share my experience because I have myself learnt so much from this forum, from others' experience. 🙂
I studied from decks, kaplan notes, question bank and thru' wiki. Googled most of the topics I was not sure of. Made notes of the things that I thought had to be memorized like different syndromes, biochem cycles, derivatives of vitamins, amino acids etc.Try doing the whole exam 2-3 times b4 u appear. It kind of helps u sit thru' the exam on that day.
A day before the exam just went thru' these notes.
Try to sleep early the night b4 the exam. You have to have a fresh mind to endure through the day. Take the break, it is needed. Eat something and try to relax.
First section was comparitively simple or may be I was not tired then. I was really tired during the second half. So had to think hard even for simple questions. There were 30-40 questions which I had never come across, not even anything similar. There were lot of questions on anatomy of tooth and anomalies, a few on DNA replication and cloning, coenzymes, encephalitis, dysguesia, nerve supply to larynx, foraminas, muscle attachments, artherosclerosis.
No queston on mandibular movt. for me, though I was hoping there will be quite a few. The testlets were simple. Could answer them but had doubts about 2-3 questions.
There is enough time for all the questions. Do not rush into answering. Read the questions slowly. I managed to finish both the sections an hour earlier, reviewed the marked questions and still had time to review most of the questions again. Please review all b4 u quit. I came across 2-3 questions which appeared unanswered though I had answered them. May be the response was not recorded.
If you have read the question before and still don't recollect the answer, it is mostly the first answer that comes to your mind which is correct, unless u can come to conclusion by way of deleting the wrong ones.
I was very nervous 2 weeks b4 the exam and tried some relaxation techniques. You can try that too...it really helps.
Lastly, all my best wishes to everybody who is appearing for the exam.It feels nice once it is over. So enjoy!!👍

Hi, I am taking my ndbe I in two weeks. 🙁
until which year do you recommend to go back in the release exams?
I am very nervous.... thanks for your help...

hi
i gave my part 1 3 days back.
i realized that most of the questions were from dental desk and from the released question papers.if one has studied dental desk thoroughly, he can get 80 percent right. i couldnt do well coz i had a bit less time for my prep due to my hectic schedule, so couldnt recollect many things. still was a good experience.
the bad part was that i gt jumbled up with answers, as in few questions released papers say some thing and desk says sthg else.
i feel we know most of the answers, just its abt concentrating and reading the questions properly.
i hope to get a decent score.else there is always a next chance.

Thank a lot for sharing your experience... 😳...

Hi! I agree with NBDE part1 and drrohit81. Do the released exam papers atleast from the last 10 yrs. Do ur decks thoroughly. And yes at times the answers differ in decks and the released question paper keys. So confirm it referring to some textbooks or just google the topic. Even after all this one tends to get slightly confused during the exam. So don't worry. I guess happens with everybody.
All the best for ur exam!👍

thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us. so r your results out. do share your scores with us as well.

Hi! harry bajwa,dmn ...thanks!
I mostly studied from kaplan notes and whichever textbook is available for references. Also searched for different topics on wiki or googled. Studied thoroughly from decks.
Best of luck for ur exam!👍

Thanks Chinnu96 for ur wishes!
Hey Chato1234 I received my scores in about 2 weeks. You will get yours soon. Best of luck!!

hi meeman. Congratulations for scoring so well. U indeed did it very well. Unfortunately i did not score so well, even though i had worked really hard. Can u please tell me how much time did u give for your preparation, and if i do decks and kaplan and wiki, will i be able to score good in my next attempt?

Hi! Jaishreekrishna...thank you. I really understand what u must be gng thru'. 🙁 All the time that I was waiting for my scores I was just praying that I do not have to do this again. But believe me, if I can do it...so can you.
I studied for almost 31/2-4 mnths. In the meanwhile I also appeared for my toefl and then could concentrate on nbde. Last one mnth is when I really studied very hard. I'm sure u did too, but I believe apart from how much you know it also depends partly on how calm you cld remain during the exam and may be an element of luck.
Apart from ur decks and notes do solve lot of question papers. I think it helps.
Best of luck!👍

Hi Meeman,
Congrats on ur achivement. I have 1 more quick question for u, did u read thur kaplan Question bank?, does it help really?.

Hi! mfisl...thank you!🙂
I did a few of them from Kaplan question bank but did not have enough time to go thru' all. It does help when you start solving papers, especially biochem. I did not do any dental anatomy papers because there is a lot of conflicting information in Kaplan and decks. I preferred sticking to decks.
Hope that helps.👍

Congratulations to those who took the exam and scored well. Good luck to the rest.
I have 1 question. Where did you guys get the last 10 yrs worth of Question Papers.? Do you know if anybody is selling them.? I have 2006 Decks, First Aid and Kaplan Material. I also have 1999 NBDE papers and thats it.
Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you minibracket , gari, superstar 2008...🙂
Hey gari...I gave my exam after internship. I don't know if it is a good idea to appear for the exam in the 4th year. But during or after internship is good. you have to dedicate a lot of time studying for nbde. So..it is upto you..how much you can handle at a time.
Hi shashi, superstar2008...i wrote about my experience at the beginning of this thread. If you still have any queries please feel free to ask here or PM me... I would be glad to answer them.
shashi...Best of luck for ur exam. Keep the last few days to revise ur decks. It really helps.👍

Hi! Shradha...best of luck for your exam!👍
To be honest...I started pretty slow in the beginning. But in the last mnth I studied for almost 8-9 hrs a day. But I feel there is a threshold for everybody. Sometimes I wld be more satisfied studying for 3-4 hrs and wld cover more than I cld in 7-8 hrs. So do the best you can! You can enjoy later....🙂

Hi! docsmiley...I revised decks in the last 4-5 days b4 the exam just to make sure that I revised all the topics. If u feel u r well prepared then continue what you are dng. But i was comfortable just revising things for one last time. Best of luck for ur exam. 👍
Hey drmangalore...that is a very nice score! Congrats!! 🙂

Hi chinnu96,
Can u tell me if you will get a raw score after the part I exam?
Like no.of correct responses etc.?

Hi! blissonearth...good for you that u r a good listener....very few people are!😉. It wld be wrong for me to suggest anything abt this because I have not tried it and I have not heard these lectures. But I think it is a good idea to listen to topics in these lectures and then gng thru' the notes/textbook abt the same to find out how much you have retained. If you do then good for you...Hope this helps🙂

Thanks for the response. So, basically we will know how much we are going to score on the same day of exam, atleast approximately.
No, I have not received it yet. I ll let u know once I receive it. Thanks and good luck!

yep, the pattern has changed. The exam has 400 questions from Part 1 topics; all mixed. Some questions r in testlet form in which they give u a case & then ask 4-5 questions based on the case; others r one-line questions. u'l hav 7 hrs to answer wid a 1hr break i,e: first 3 & half hrs for 2oo questions followed by a 1 hr break & then next 3 & half hrs for NEXT 2oo questions.
REMEMBER: u cannot go back to the 1st batch questions in the 2nd half.
PS: pharmacology is a Part2 topic NOT part1.
Kaplan notes r really helpful so buy them from wherever u get them just make sure they r not very old. No need to buy Kaplan Q-bank; its a waste of money.
All the best 👍
