Hi Guys,
Why don't we start NBDE-2 score thread and the experience associated with the exam. Please feel free to jolt down your total part-2 preperation schedule and books used for the success , and share with everybody.
Thanks.👍

Congratulations Enamelbunny!
Hard work always pays off.Well! enjoy the days ahead.

I am new to SDN an have only posted once, but I have gained so much from others who have and through their stories (such people as Ms Toothy awesome inspiration) I decided to post my experience. I sat for part 2 on Nov 17th and 18th for the 4th time, yes the 4th. It was a humbling year and overall experience and I got relly epressed many times, but as my husband (who was my classmate) always said "it's not a matter of if just a matter of when" , and now it's over! I got my scores tonight did not check my mail earlier today as I never suspected to get the results until next week it has only been a week since I took the exam and I passed!! I got 392/500 giving me a cumulative score of 87%. Never, never give up on your dreams work hard, and study as much relevant info as you can, and you will do it. I studied old exams, Tufts, decks (spent more time looking at the Decks in the areas I waas weak in), kapln Q Bank, and I also was fortunate to find a study partner in thelast month or so here on SDN who lived 2 hrs from me and we helped each othe (this helpe so much) Thanks study partner! Having a great support group means the world, and I had the best ever in my husband.

congratulation and all best for you.

please can you tell me what exactly came in exam??
i want to know what is first day and what is 2nd day??

this is the first time to take the exam.
i took part 1 but i didn't pass i got 74% so i decided to take part 2 before part 1 and i am scared to fail again in part 2.

thanks allot .
appreciate your help.

th

I would check into the NBDE website through the ADA if I were you. You cannot register for the Part II until you have a successful passing score for the Part I

Are there any pictures or X-rays on the first day of the exam for NBDE part 2?any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

im about to take nbde ii soon. i was wondering what i should be averaging on the old released exams? in some cases i have been getting 65%. is that good enough to pass?
thanks

I would say try to get at least 70-75% to be on the safe side. And it also depends on the year of the released exam.I could score up to 85% in years from 1978 to 91,but in the latest years (2000-2008) 70% was the maximum. However on the exam I managed to get about 73%.

Hi Orlando, what were your section scores and when do u plan to retake the exam. Im assuming your in Orlando (so am I), and I just took part II and assuming I pass I have some study material u might be interested in.

Hi, im planning to retake my exam in 3-4 mnth again. My score was around 337/500 and 57 on case studies. When did u take urs. Can u tell me the material that u have and when can u sell it to me. I do need the latest dental decks if u have . Good luck with ur result.

I never post, I only read but I thought I should share my success. I took the exam for the first time before Thanksgivings and got my report back this week. I'm not sure how they calculate the scores but whatever, I got 75 (on the dot) w/ 385/500 and 60/100 cases. I studied for 6 serious weeks and I found the exam to be very diffficult. For most of the questions, I felt like I could always narrow the answers down to two. Although my scores aren't the greatest, I'm just glad I don't have to take the exam again. BTW, I BOMBED the operative section, I got 29/63 😱 I believe that's the reason behind my low score. I guess I thought I knew that subject because I didn't study it that much but who cares, I PASSED😀

dens 2 be, thanks a bunch for posting your results. I have not posted on this site in a while. I had years of trouble with Part 1 and some people on here bashed me so bad, I just stopped. I did pass Part 1 and am taking part 2 next month. I am nervous because after trouble with part 1, I cannot imagine failing again! Congrats on passing, this makes me feel like I have a chance of passing on the first try!!!!!!!!

I had my exam today... was really tough..specially 2 day clinical ...my first half was really easy..but 2nd half and 2day totally bummed me... i am really tensed for my results..

Not too shabby! That is great for all those who are passing. Please don't give up if you have trouble!

It is definitely doable.Concentrate on the most important sources, check your progress on the released exams, and if your score is in a range of 70-80% from the first time(especially 1998-2005,2000-2008) you are set to pass and even higher.

Hi friends
I am having my part2 exam on 21st& 22nd of this month. Can any one help me for my last minute preparations. I am really tensed. Please help me.....😡😡😡

Still plenty of time for a final revise. The least helpful is to stress. The most helpful is to stay calm and focused.

I felt last min revision of MOSBY and papers specially 2000-2005 set is very helpful..Be calm and do it properly...U tend to get confused with the options in the exam alot..

Haven't posted in awhile.
Taking the exam in 3 weeks!
I am about 1/2 through First aid, and just started decks...

Anything else that you feel like is a "Must read" book or study material? Especially for the last week?

Thanks!

Thanks great advice. Im calm but worried, Im hours away Im taking it on Monday morning.
when you mean Mosby you mean reading the whole book? or the CD test taking section as practice?
Ive been studying and reading so far...this is 2nd time around.

The only thing we can all do is to relax and study as much as possible. Stressing definitely does NOT help! I had so much trouble passing part 1 but the last time I took it, I prepared as best as I could, prayed, and believed that I could and would pass it. It did work!!!! WE all have to believe in ourselves and have faith that this will all come together. If you are taking it next week, take some time to meditate and feed your mind positive thoughts, there is no way to tell what questions you will get, so no need to worry. When you get there, take your time, and keep it moving. Good luck and God bless to those who will be taking it soon. I am sure we will all do well. We are breaking the high failure rate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Blasphy... I really know how you feel and I am sooo sorry!!! I just got my results today and they arrived 2 weeks and 1 day after taking my exam. I FAILED with a 74! - 320/500. My exam was extremely difficult. I got one of those exams that was subjective and most of the questions were not in any of the study material. There isn't much we can do at this point. I am really annoyed that I failed, but I went into this exam knowing the material and I was well prepared. I seriously studied for 1.5 months and my performance on this exam would have been the same if I had studied for a week. We just have to take it again. I don't remember most of the questions from my exam since I had never seen the topics in any study material. Can you believe that tuft's pharm didn't even help me on the exam? the decks and Mosby's did help with certain topics, but it did not help for the majority of my exam. It was a total diaster. To be honest, I don't know where I could have studied from that would have the material that was on my exam.

Not sure about the audit. Honestly I don't think your score will change, but you can give it a try. It won't hurt you.

Your point about 1.5 months vs. 1 week is a valid one. I just finished it today and it's not a test that checks to seek how well you can memorize but how well you can reason and think. It tests your ability to apply a concept given a situation you have never seen before.

Some advice that helped me the most. . .

When taking the released exams, know why the other options are wrong just don't memorize the right answers. I saw multiple questions on the NBDE II that tested on the same concepts as the released exam questions...you just have to identify which concept is being tested. Understand concepts more than facts!

Process of elimination is essential if you want to keep your sanity. Justify each option that is eliminated and don't feel bad if you don't know the answer...you should feel good that you put down the answer that will give you the best odds of getting it right.

For the case based questions, look at the old exams to understand the ideal treatment plan for a patient and know the things that would change it like finances, time, contraindications, etc.

Because this is an exam that will test your ability to reason, it uses a lot of brain power. Get a good night sleep and eat well before taking it.

I hope this helps.

this is my first post to SDN bt i have been following it as my guide the day i planned to prepare for NBDE.Im preparing for my part2 and wanted to know how mch score is considered a good one on part2

I'm in the same boat 🙁 so I scored a 57% on 1998-2005..so you're saying retake it and make sure it's more than 70%..I'm so screwed

I am not sure if it will be enough to pass if you score 57%.The idea is not to just memorize the answers from the previous tests to score above 70% in them.Ideally you should be at a theoretical level when you can score above a certain percentage in any released test the very first time you do this test.Once again it is only my experience. After reading the mosby and the decks I was able to answer correctly from 75% to 85% in the old released papers.Second time I could score up to 95-100% in some easy tests. But this did not count as a result,it was just a pure memorizing. In 1998-2005 I scored 86%,and in the latest 2000-2008 only 70%.🙁 So, as you can see the result I received on the real test (73.4% and 81 composite score) confirmed rather accurately the level of my readiness as I could conclude from the latest released ASDA exam.I repeat, it was only my particular case.It may happen that in your exam 57% will be quite sufficient to pass the board. However I wouldn't risk to take the test just to see if it will work until I am at least 70%-75% in the latest ASDA test the very first time.

I made this mistake first time and I failed

Im going to try this,I have the 1998-2005, I have tendency of memorizing, its tough when you try to concentrate on the answer basis, than shooting for an answer right away and going to next question to answer if you are used to memorizing.

Sounds to me that there is similarity in accuracy, great to test your own preparedness.

Thank you for sharing this insight,I take my test in few hours, will report back.wish me luck !!!thanks guys!

I just took day one. I have to say that I was disappointed to see very few old questions. I only got between 20 to 30. I stopped counting after my first half in which I only saw 10!
All I can say is that they test from EVERYTHING! Some questions were obvious and some were "am I supposed to know this?"
I wouldn't be able to point anything in specific. I hope I knew enough to pass :xf:

I agree 100%, first section seem comprehensable but afternoon was just confusing and dissapointing. :xf:

I also took mine today. Didn't think it was too bad... There are definitely some repeats but not a lot. If you look at old exams going back to the 1980s you will see repeats from then too. I thought the exam was mostly fair if you were prepared...there was at least 1 question that I wanted to slap whoever wrote it...

wht kind of question was there for pharmacology? do i need to remember generic name for drug? do i need to refer tuft for pharmac? how was the implant questions? from where did you read that section?

Both drug names are given so as long as you know 1 you're ok. Tufts review was very helpful in pharm. I didn't study implants but my basic knowledge in them helped me answer all the implant questions. GL

Hello Bugab00 & Elsandro
How was your day2 exam???

Drove through 2 hours of snow for this lol...I thought the questions were fair. Some were tricky because one could argue for multiple tx plans. Ask 10 dentists how they'd tx plan a case and you'll get 11 different options...

The thing that really annoyed me was the radiographs. Some were beautiful, but some of the PAs were so small, with no way to make them bigger. Some of them were so bright all you could see was white and perhaps a tooth outline. It was silly. We pay $365, work out butts off, and can't even get a proper exam!

Do I think I passed? Yes. Do I think they need to improve some aspects of this exam? yes.

As far as the second day, you really don't need to study for it ( I didn't) since you learned this stuff in clinic.

GL to all :luck:

hi bugaboo,

Got my Part 2 results today. I got a 73. I got 311/500 for day 1 and 64/100 for the case based questions. I found the exam to be very difficult. I am a very awful exam taker and have managed to get this far in school and just need to pass this last exam and will no longer need to take another exam again.
I studied for about 6 weeks. I used 2004 dental decks 2x, used Mosby's 1x, and used Tufts pharm review 3x. I also went through 1993 released exam, which I felt it was most comparable to, and was scoring around 70%. I am honestly lost on whatelse I am supposed to do. I struggled with Part 1 but managed to pass the exam. I have to wait 90 days to retake this exam and will begin studying in a few weeks I guess. Any advice anybody? I would really appreciate it!

Got my results yesterday- Christmas eve and I passed with an 80%. This was my third time taking part 2 and I didnt know what I would have done if I had to wait an entire year to retake this exam. For those that have failed this exam I know its tough but just try and stay positive and keep working hard.

What were your raw scores on the exam?

What material did you use this time to get a passing score? Did you use anything different from the first 2 times taking this exam?

I have used 2004 dental decks and mosbys and tufts pharm review but fell short. I went through 1993 exam because I heard it was most similar to the real exam and that's what I used. Please let me know. Thank you so much for your help.
