hi opn wide,
Can u tell me when did u take your test..coz I ma badly waiting for my results and expecting anytime soon...
What material did you use this time to get a passing score? Did you use anything different from the first 2 times taking this exam?
I have used 2004 dental decks and mosbys and tufts pharm review but fell short. I went through 1993 exam because I heard it was most similar to the real exam and that's what I used. Please let me know. Thank you so much for your help.
Well the first 2x I used Mosby and Decks and this last time I signed up for the Kaplan NBDE 2 Course. So I used the Kaplan lecture notes, Qbank, and all the Kaplan exams, practice exams, diagnostic exams, and released exams along with Tufts book and again dental decks. This last time I didn't even open the Mosby book.
Congratulations opnwide.......Can you please tell me about tufts book, is it like whole book worth to read or just the pharma section?
The tufts book is composed of high-yield questions, and explanations. I used it mainly for Pharm, but also for Prosth, Pt mgmt, and Pedo/Ortho as these have been areas in my previous exams that I scored poorly in. My pharm score was 31/37 (national mean 26.6).
Took part II a few days ago...probably the most brutal and fundamentally ridiculous test I've ever seen. So many options as to right answers...questions worded so poorly that you can barely decipher what is being asked. I won't be too surprised if I have to retake that test and I studied for a month. It was much worse than part I, which I was fortunate enough to do very well on. My personal feeling is that this test does not need to be as hard as it is..because much of it does not pertain to general dentistry (at least the test I had didnt...particularly the cases). For the cases, I was getting full out ortho cases for example....all in all, test was aweful and I fully expect to have to retake it..but for now i'm enjoying the holidays study book free.
Just got my scores from my test on 12/9 and 12/10. Got 389/500 with 74/100 on the cases. This scaled to an 85 on my version.
hi..
can anyone please tell me from where to get this tufts book???
perio and ortho are both well-represented. basic, but well-represented. perio is less about surgery and more about tx planning and tx of infections. ortho showed up in the case studies especially. know definitions of different angles etc. good luck!
Exam score came back yesterday.... 420/500 with 80/100 on cases, translating to a score of 90. Went through decks once (didnt have time for radiology or patient management), Tufts review, read only OS in Mosby's but did the exams, and Old tests (K,L,M). Good luck to everyone.

Hello Bugab00 & Elsandro
How was your day2 exam???
tell me about it I drove almost 6 hours for mine, I thought it was tough exam, its is easy to say if you think you chose right answer, but it was so tricky in the rewording of questions that you wouldnt know until you get your results back.Drove through 2 hours of snow for this lol...I thought the questions were fair. Some were tricky because one could argue for multiple tx plans. Ask 10 dentists how they'd tx plan a case and you'll get 11 different options...
The thing that really annoyed me was the radiographs. Some were beautiful, but some of the PAs were so small, with no way to make them bigger. Some of them were so bright all you could see was white and perhaps a tooth outline. It was silly. We pay $365, work out butts off, and can't even get a proper exam!
Do I think I passed? Yes. Do I think they need to improve some aspects of this exam? yes.
As far as the second day, you really don't need to study for it ( I didn't) since you learned this stuff in clinic.
GL to all![]()
I have to study for it all over again, I cant believe I failed this...
unbelievable cause I studied hard for it.
What were your scores?
Oh man, I'm taking mine in just 3 days!
Any good last minute review materials or sections that you guys wish you reviewed more?
I passed part II. It was a very emotional ride for me. I have never been so nervous for an exam (more than for part I or the DAT). It may have been partly due to the higher national failure rate, but I think it was mostly from reading these SDN posts! You guys freaked me out. I really thought I would fail. I was scoring between 51-58% on the practice tests and really doubted myself. But you know what? I passed!
My advice: Please stay calm. Stay focused. And don't try to freak others out. Also, expect to be uncomfortably nervous while waiting to receive your score. I was so depressed and non-functional because I had convinced myself that I had failed. Don't do the same.
I reviewed the decks (newest edition) once and I took the 3 newest released ASDA tests. It worked for me.
My score was a 78 (339/500)....I have never seen a more beautiful number 😛
Good luck to those still studying. JUST STAY CALM.
Strange, my score numbers aren't corresponding to what I've seen here on SDN. My overall score was (409/500) and my score was 77. Not to undermine your score lovechild, but that's a 70 point differential between us and I had a lower overall score. Strange...I must have had a very easy test, though I did score higher than the national mean in all sections. Oh well, at least I passed.
For those interested, I went through the new decks once and a bit of Mosby's. I studied for 1.5 weeks about 3 hours a day.
I agree with other posters in that the test was not indicative of real-world dentistry.
Sounds like you may have added your case score to the cumulative score that already includes the case score...

Day 1 of 2 Done. Feels okay. I'm always uncertain how I really did until I get my scores back. Definitely thought many times the answers were narrowed down to 2. Not too many just out-of-the-blue questions, but we'll see how it really plays out in 3 weeks! 😕

Good luck........Done!!! - I will update in 3 weeks. Wish me luck. 👍
