Hi Guys,
Why don't we start NBDE-2 score thread and the experience associated with the exam. Please feel free to jolt down your total part-2 preperation schedule and books used for the success , and share with everybody.
Thanks.👍

What material did you use this time to get a passing score? Did you use anything different from the first 2 times taking this exam?

I have used 2004 dental decks and mosbys and tufts pharm review but fell short. I went through 1993 exam because I heard it was most similar to the real exam and that's what I used. Please let me know. Thank you so much for your help.

Well the first 2x I used Mosby and Decks and this last time I signed up for the Kaplan NBDE 2 Course. So I used the Kaplan lecture notes, Qbank, and all the Kaplan exams, practice exams, diagnostic exams, and released exams along with Tufts book and again dental decks. This last time I didn't even open the Mosby book.

Congratulations opnwide.......Can you please tell me about tufts book, is it like whole book worth to read or just the pharma section?

Took part II a few days ago...probably the most brutal and fundamentally ridiculous test I've ever seen. So many options as to right answers...questions worded so poorly that you can barely decipher what is being asked. I won't be too surprised if I have to retake that test and I studied for a month. It was much worse than part I, which I was fortunate enough to do very well on. My personal feeling is that this test does not need to be as hard as it is..because much of it does not pertain to general dentistry (at least the test I had didnt...particularly the cases). For the cases, I was getting full out ortho cases for example....all in all, test was aweful and I fully expect to have to retake it..but for now i'm enjoying the holidays study book free.

The tufts book is composed of high-yield questions, and explanations. I used it mainly for Pharm, but also for Prosth, Pt mgmt, and Pedo/Ortho as these have been areas in my previous exams that I scored poorly in. My pharm score was 31/37 (national mean 26.6).

Hope you did well though and maybe don't need to get as many right on that test...

Question, I'm taking this sucker soon. Could you explain what you mean by the test having little to do with general dentistry? I am studying right now.. Should I not memorize the different instruments, etc..?

If you could elaborate just a bit that would be awesome! Enjoy your holiday.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted on sdn for almost 2 years. Anyhoo, took part 2 after Thanksgiving for the 1st time and passed with a 80 with total score of 382 and day 2 of 68. Studied for 2 months and used Board Buster, Tufts (pharm), and skim through oral path pics on a text book. I also did 2006, 2009 and some old practice exams. I didn't get that many repeat questions.

Just got my scores from my test on 12/9 and 12/10. Got 389/500 with 74/100 on the cases. This scaled to an 85 on my version.

guys, how is Perio on this thing?

I am doing the 80s exams now and Perio is kick my a**

perio and ortho are both well-represented. basic, but well-represented. perio is less about surgery and more about tx planning and tx of infections. ortho showed up in the case studies especially. know definitions of different angles etc. good luck!

Perio about Treatment Planning? What's That??

I thought it was just SRP, SRP, SRP, until the cows come home?

Or maybe I have to do more studying?

do the exam have picture of pathology for oral disease and ask about disease identification of lesion?

Exam score came back yesterday.... 420/500 with 80/100 on cases, translating to a score of 90. Went through decks once (didnt have time for radiology or patient management), Tufts review, read only OS in Mosby's but did the exams, and Old tests (K,L,M). Good luck to everyone.

Congrats Class VII - NICE score!

Any tips for the cases? Did the old exams prepare you well enough?

I thought the old exams were great. After the decks I didn't feel that prepared, but the exams brought everything together for me. I felt like the cases were fair, many simple questions and the ones I didn't know...I will never know, they were way out there. For the most part, I thought the test was like a 6 out 10 on the difficulty scale, I most likely had an easy version. My friends and I talked about the tests and it seems they had MANY questions that were ridiculous. Good luck, stay calm....I feel that I did well cause I went in not caring about anything but passing.

Hello Bugab00 & Elsandro
How was your day2 exam???
Drove through 2 hours of snow for this lol...I thought the questions were fair. Some were tricky because one could argue for multiple tx plans. Ask 10 dentists how they'd tx plan a case and you'll get 11 different options...

The thing that really annoyed me was the radiographs. Some were beautiful, but some of the PAs were so small, with no way to make them bigger. Some of them were so bright all you could see was white and perhaps a tooth outline. It was silly. We pay $365, work out butts off, and can't even get a proper exam!

Do I think I passed? Yes. Do I think they need to improve some aspects of this exam? yes.

As far as the second day, you really don't need to study for it ( I didn't) since you learned this stuff in clinic.

GL to all :luck:
tell me about it I drove almost 6 hours for mine, I thought it was tough exam, its is easy to say if you think you chose right answer, but it was so tricky in the rewording of questions that you wouldnt know until you get your results back.

I have to study for it all over again, I cant believe I failed this...

Oh man, I'm taking mine in just 3 days!
Any good last minute review materials or sections that you guys wish you reviewed more?

Pharma cancer meds and interactions with anestesia/ prescribed meds.
Pharma killed me that I felt just reading tufts review didnt help,
medically compromised patients,
stupid dental insurance questions, dental public health and stupid terms they have.

hope this helps...GL

I passed part II. It was a very emotional ride for me. I have never been so nervous for an exam (more than for part I or the DAT). It may have been partly due to the higher national failure rate, but I think it was mostly from reading these SDN posts! You guys freaked me out. I really thought I would fail. I was scoring between 51-58% on the practice tests and really doubted myself. But you know what? I passed!

My advice: Please stay calm. Stay focused. And don't try to freak others out. Also, expect to be uncomfortably nervous while waiting to receive your score. I was so depressed and non-functional because I had convinced myself that I had failed. Don't do the same.

I reviewed the decks (newest edition) once and I took the 3 newest released ASDA tests. It worked for me.

My score was a 78 (339/500)....I have never seen a more beautiful number 😛

Good luck to those still studying. JUST STAY CALM.

Strange, my score numbers aren't corresponding to what I've seen here on SDN. My overall score was (409/500) and my score was 77. Not to undermine your score lovechild, but that's a 70 point differential between us and I had a lower overall score. Strange...I must have had a very easy test, though I did score higher than the national mean in all sections. Oh well, at least I passed.

For those interested, I went through the new decks once and a bit of Mosby's. I studied for 1.5 weeks about 3 hours a day.

I agree with other posters in that the test was not indicative of real-world dentistry.

Sounds like you may have added your case score to the cumulative score that already includes the case score...

Elssandro, do you mind saying what you studied? Thanks again for everyone's help. Although it kinda sucks that this exam is so difficult.

Just got the results yesterday and passed with an 82. Considering I was scoring around 55-60% on practice exams I'm happy. I did the best in prosth (50/60 right) which was strange because I found it to be way too hard in the decks, and worst on the second day (62/100- national mean 67/100)

GL to all :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Congrats love child and bugaboo!!!! I am so happy that you said what you said about people freaking you out. We have to have faith in ourselves and our abilities. I did move my exam back another month cause I lost some valuable study time with my mom in the hospital over the holidays, but I am confident that I WILL Pass on my first attempt. I feel I have no other choice and that's how I study.Always think positive thoughts and you will do fine. You are right though, waiting for results is really really tough. You might as well give me a sleeping pill for two weeks cause I feel like throwing up every day walking to the mail box. lol!!! Good Luck and God Bless everyone taking the exam soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I got my results back and I passed with 87! I'm extremelly happy!
I started reading the decks and mosbys book since October, I don't know if it helped, but I like to think it did. In total, I read decks and mosbys twice, tuffs pharm three times and I did the latest pratice exams twice.
I think it's a very comprehensive exam, with obvious and not-so obvious questions. The day I took the exam I felt nervous bc I was freakying out about failing. I think it's best to be optimistic and prepare yourself as much as you feel you can. Towards the last days, I didn't know what I should study bc if I didn't know it by then, I won't be able to learn it in a couple of days.
Hope it helps. Good luck to all!

Day 1 of 2 Done. Feels okay. I'm always uncertain how I really did until I get my scores back. Definitely thought many times the answers were narrowed down to 2. Not too many just out-of-the-blue questions, but we'll see how it really plays out in 3 weeks! 😕

thank you very much

I got my result .got 74% 321/500...I really feel i cud have passed...does anyone knw if audit request helps!!!

I am very new to the part 2 prep and have a few questions-

1. Can somebody tell me what is the full name of the Mosby's book that everybody is talking about?

2. Does First Aid for the Part 2 have different editions? If yes, which one to use?

3. Decks has released a new edition of 2011-12 for part 2.. IS it necessary to buy the new set, or does the old set suffice? Does anybody who has both sets knows the difference between the two?

Thank you !

hi..i wanted to know something..is it essential to give both nbde part 1 and 2 to get admission nowadays...i mean we were only suppose to give nbde part 1 to get admission earlier ??

I take the test tomorrow. I have studied about 10 hours going over the kaplan q bank. I took all test questions from that and scored on average around 64%. does anyone know if this is indicative of passing? What were other people that just passed getting taking the Kaplan Q bank questions?

Just got my test results back for Boards part II, and I Passed.
Got a 87 like it really matters. Now im just waiting for Jan 31st.
