Hello all,

Can someone who is studying at a European university (5-year program and non-accredited) take Part I while he/she is in school or he/she should graduate first and then plan to take it?

I'm asking because in the ADA web site under eligibility requirements for taking Part I, it states that:

"A dental student attending a non-accredited dental school can also be certified for examinations. However, the application is not signed by the dean. If the dental school is not accredited, certification must be on a form provided by the Joint Commission. The completed certification form must include the seal of the school and the signature of the dean or the registrar and must be submitted with the application."

I want to save time as much as I can so at the end I can proceed to other stages (other requirements like LORs, TOEFL, application completion, etc.) as soon as possible.

Is it even logical to think about it?

By the way, how many times a year Part I is offered and when?

Thank you,

Thank you,
Yes you can do that...and yes it a time saver.
National boards can be taken anytime of the year, twice in a calender year atleast 90 days apart.
Over a period of time if possible do part 2 also..... 🙂
good luck :luck:

Thanks D(M)ental,
And do you know that what is the timeline required in order to apply to IDP programs?

Let's say someone graduates around Aug 2006 and if he/she is ok with the requirements by the time (taken Part I, TOEFL, LORs, application itself), will he/she be able to apply for fall 2006? or he/she must apply before, like during the last year of school?

When should we take Part II then?...after we enrolled in a IDP program or after we graudate which is eventually before enrollment?

Most schools require only Part I for admission, but do you think it's logical for someone to try to pass Part II too, or he/she must leave it for after completion of IDP programs?

Good luck :luck:

You are welcome. One must apply in aug/sept-about dec/jan 2005 to make the school in fall 2006.Most schools do not accept a provisional/temporary degree certificate/diploma.It must be the real thing.Know what I mean?
Yes,most schools do ask only for part 1 and you can do part 2 during IDP program, propr to graduation,I think.
Since you are being far sighted(taking the boards early etc.), it was a suggestion to go the whole hog. Some schools like tufts, loma linda, university of pittsburg etc. do have a part 2 requirement. It will give you more choices.
Do think about it. 😀
good luck :luck:
PS-what is LOR?

LOR = Letter Of Recommendation
and I didn't get exactly what you said about provisional/temporary degree certificate/diploma?
I know that everybody has to represent a real DDS or DMD, if it's what you mean 😀 .

Is GPA of dental school important for admission or they only need a dental degree?

Obviously I do not know where you are from or what the policies in your country are.
But,I am from India and once we finish internship (5th year d-school),we were given provisional degree certificate. The "real" degree was conferred after a few months.I finished the internship in december and the degree was conferred in may.Make sense now? 😀
GPA,national boards, toefl are somethings that are looked into, though I dont know what exactly chinches it,the magic bullet if you will.
If you have more questions please do not hesitate 😀
