NBME percentage score
Started by viergewinnt
I didn't understand your post.
NBME gives you a score on a three-digit scale and score interpretation guide, and you can translate that NBME score to approxiamte Step1 three-digit score. Not % correct !
For example,
If your NBME Assessment score is 670, it approximates a Step1 three-digit score of 252 based on that scale.

no biggie, but 670 is the equivalent of 247, not 252.

psst....umm...where the heck is everybody getting these forms?? If you go to the site there's nothing offered, nothing for sale, nothing to look at but a few sample questions. Anyone have a link or something??

I think you can probably get to them through this link.
https://apps.nbme.org/nsasweb/servlet/mesa_main
I took my exam yesterday. I downloaded NBME 2008 from www.usmle.org. It gives a percentage for every block(like 70% if you answer 35/50). I used to hear about figures like 800, this is probably in earlier versions of NBME.
I have to admit that I found it, by far, to be the closest to the real exam among the diferent Qbanks and books I used.

do they give a table to correlate your percentage to a predicted 3-digit score? i hope they do, because that 3-digit score is usually predictive of one's real Step 1 score.

Well, it says repeatedly on the NBME site that it isn't. For some people it will be, others not so much. It's better than nothing, but I wouldn't rely too heavily on predictive value from a site that says explicitly not to.

Go to www.nbme.org
Click on Step 1
Look for link "Self Assessments" and click on that
There are four forms offered, Form 1, 2, etc.
You pay $45 by credit card and take the test online and then get feedback expressed on the NBME scale and directions for how this translates to the 3 digit USMLE score scale. Test takes around 4.5 hours.

No, they don't.
No, they don't.
Hey, dude you are talking about Free 150 USMLE qs. Everybody is giving you advice about paid-for NBME self-assessment forms. I only realised this when I read your post carefully, and noticed you got your "NBME 2008" (there is no such thing, all NBME forms are just known by their numbers 1 through 4) from www.usmle.org. NBME forms are only available from www.nmbe.org.
To answer your original question: go to medfriends calculator, put your percentage score in (NOT in the NBME slot, but in the Free 150qs slot!), and they will give you a rough idea what your score might look like.
Good luck.
