So I have my test next week and just took nbme 15. 242. I got a 240 5 freaking weeks ago before even sitting down with FA (started off just doing UW). The other scores I've gotten in between have been 240 an 247.

I don't get it. How can all of this studying have gotten me nowhere? I feel like I've been kicked in the balls because I was shooting for at least a 250. Anyone else in this position? I was shocked to see
my score honestly 🙁

You're still good for family med, just apply broadly.

why are you missing the questions that you miss? do you have any glaring weaknesses that cause you to get a lot of questions wrong?

if there isn't a clear cut reason for why you're missing questions then you may have already had a lot of knowledge heading into your dedicated period so you might have plateaued already.

Try reading the questions slower, and read it twice if neccesary. Reading comprehension gets me on at least 1 question every block. That's like 6-7 points!

Yeah man, once you get above 240 every single question matters. You are way ahead of the bell curve at that point and incorrects destroy your score. I was fortunate (or unfortunate) to have a really smart study partner...I was always stuck just below/around 240 and she would get 250+ like it was no thing...but number-wise, she really wasnt getting THAT many more questions right than me

Dude I'm in the same position. It sucks man (esp. since the majority on this forum throw around 250's like its nothing). You need to study your butt off (I'm talking 22 hrs. w/ 1 hour to sleep and 1hr to chill with your side-piece if you know what I'm saying), and on the day before your exam just rest.

same position as you, hit high 240s 3 days into my study period, and since then haven't improved but about 5-7 points. i think what all the studying is doing is guaranteeing you at least that score, since so much of it depends on what kind of questions you are facing. ive been told by multiple people that once you are at this level, its not really the knowledge base thats going to hold you back on the exam, its your analyzing ability and test taking abilities

when are you taking your exam?

Thanks for the replies guys. It's so weird...I'm getting all the tough ones that people post about in threads correct, but I'm missing things that no one asks about. And the answers I am most sure about, I get wrong. It's nuts!

I guess I had really high expectations because I started Uworld in the 60's like in January before even looking at anything and worked up to the 80's. I honestly think Uworld is easier overall than the NBMEs. At least I feel confident about my choices in UW. NBME is so vague

Hopefully I'll have some luck on test day and break 250, who knows :luck::luck::luck:

hmm I am sure you'll do fine. Get enough rest. Last thing you want at this point is to let that get to your head. So try to relax mate!

Btw was wondering if you have any advice. I sat for the nbme 5 and got a 201, although still 2 months out but kind of bummed out. Mind you, I haven't started uworld yet, probably get started on it today but a jump from 201-240? Is it realistic

cheers

i did nbme 5 a month before my dedicated and hit a 210, exactly a month later i did nbme 11/12 and was between 245-250, so its definitely realistic. just hit the qbank and read FA alongside it and drill some of the biochem/anatomy/embryo and it makes a big difference (at least for me at that point in time)

So I took my exam yesterday. Feel like I broke into the 250's. How common is it to overshoot your nbme scores by 10 points? I feel like maybe I'm getting my hopes up and missed more than I think :/

I can't even imagine how well you must have done man... have you been in the scores and experiences thread?? They are all freaking out.. if you actually think you did well, I'd bet money you actually did!

I think I just got really lucky and got questions on my strengths. I mean I did have a few molecular bio questions harder than anything on uworld that I guessed on, and a fair amount of tough ones where it came down to 2 choices, but I'm hoping the curve is more lenient than nbme
