Hi there fellow SDNers,

This one is for those who have taken/plan to take the NBME. My question: HOW TO PREP/WHEN TO TAKE NBME CBSE?

I am a current D1 and very interested in OMS. In my school I will take the NBDE 1 at the end of my second year. I have read in some places that when preparing to take the NBDE people are studying with First Aid for the USMLE Step I or the companion set First Aid General Principles/Organ Systems instead of studying the traditional "dental decks" used to prep for the NBDE 1----is this the general consensus for those planning to take the NBME as well? If not how should I prep?

Should I take the NBME before or after the NBDE?

Thanks for your input.

Take the CBSE around the same time of your NBDE studying. There's a lot of overlap, sure, but the CBSE is much more difficult. I'd definitely study UMSLE First Aid (FA for short) and also get a question bank such as USMLEWorld (UWorld for short). It's never too early to start with FA but the UWorld could probably wait until a couple months before exam time. If you can get through FA at least 2 times hopefully some of the info will stick and the UWorld will be testing the knowledge you should have had from FA.

It's never too early, if you don't do well you don't have to report your score to any schools (they'll never know), and you can retake it as many times as you want while in school. Just remember it's only offered twice a year.
