Hey All! I had trouble finding a running thread on this program, so I'm starting one. I recently applied to North Carolina State University's Non-Thesis Master of Physiology program and am waiting to hear if I get in. (Hopefully for courses starting this summer :xf:)

Does anybody have experience with this program? I would love to hear from any past/ current students. What do you think of the program? How well do you feel they prepared you for your next step(s)? How long did they take to respond to your application?

Anyone who was accepted to this program but didn't attend? What contributed to your decision?

Let's get a discussion going! 🙂

I'm applying to this program as well (for the fall semester)! Good luck with your app!

The director of this program was my advisor. Basically this is a fast track to get an MS. It's built for borderline applicants who need just a little bump in their academic qualifications. Like most people on this forum agree, a regular masters does not set you apart from others in terms of GPA recovery and "stat boosting". The real benefit from the program comes from the use of the Health Professions Advising Center headed up by Dr. Flick. She is one of, if not THE, most influential people in my life. She works her ass off for her students, she has the med school application process down to a science, she has an extremely high success rate of getting her students into med/dental/PA/PT school. The benefit of the committee letter you get out of this process cannot be overstated. If you put the attention and hard work into the process she has set up, then you give yourself a fair shot at looking really good to a lot of schools. It's a very well known program to many adcoms.

Sorry I don't know more about the Masters in Physiology itself, but this is what I've heard from Dr. Mozdziak.

I am applying for the Summer Term of 2015. Good luck to you all! I talked to the director of admissions for the program and she says the admission rate as of late is fairly high because they truly want to give people the fair chance of moving forward in medical careers. So hopefully we'll all be future classmates!

Last I checked with the director, she said scores above 50th percentile is considered competitive. Good luck!

You're accepted?? Congrats!! How was the interview?
Interview and accepted later that afternoon. The interview was formal but informal at the sametime. Went in wearing a suit ready to discuss some of my academic shortcomings. End up discussing my transcript about 10 minutes, the rest of the interview was an advising session...picked out classes for the fall and talked about what the program expects of me as a student. Dr.M the program director is a nice guy, easy to talk to, went in really nervous but was soon put at ease. Its a great program, average GPA of graduates in the 2014 class is a 3.8. He said this is the only program that of you don't go to professional school after you can get a really good high paying job. I'm really excited to start this fall. Congratulations on your acceptance! I know you're excited beyond belief at this point to be one step closer to the dream. I actually have a question about your interview experience. I've been invited for an interview next week for possible acceptance in Fall 2014 and wondered if you happen to have any insight into the reason behind the director's interview (or even provide a little advice). Is it primarily confirmation that you're a strong candidate as indicated by your application materials or is it for candidates that they aren't quite sure about?! I know for some programs that interview invites are usually given only to short-list candidates while some are merely to completely rule you out. Like you, this program is one of the only available options left to fulfill the dream of medical school so I'm more than a little anxious :nailbiting: Any advice you can give would be more than appreciated. Again congrats and hopefully we'll be classmates this fall!

The interview is more of a conformation to make sure you'll fit in with the current students (highly motivated) in the program. Be passionate and truthful. Be prepared to discuss your academic history and the reason for your shortcomings. Dr. Mozidak is a nice guy! The interview is a good thing, its late in the application cycle so this means your application is worthy of a interview.

Do you know if there are any message boards for students entering the NCSU MOP program in the fall? With advice from current/former students, things to expect, etc. ?

Personal I know of two MD that went through the program, which started they had really good success in the application cycle following the program. Idk if there is a message board for the program but there is a email list for all phyyear ones.1

Anyone who is in the program, or has interviewed for the program, mind helping me out? I just got asked for a interview, I just want to know what to expect when going in, like what type of questions to expect?!

Hi all

Just got accepted to start this program in fall of 2017 and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on classes to take. Dr. Mozdziak only provided me with two classes, both of which seemed kind of boring with poor professors. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I will be an out-of-state student so everything NC State is kind of new to me as well, so if there is any other professor rating websites besides koofers, and rate my professor that I can use to help pick some classes would be great.

Thanks

Any success stories on being accepted to medical school from here ?

Hi, I graduated from the program in 2016 and just completed my first semester of medical school. A lot of my classmates were accepted to professional programs (MD, DO, DDS). Its definitely helpful.

That was an issue when I was in the program as well. However, we had Dr. Knopp for biochem and he was awesome. If I could do it all over again I would really try to take an anatomy course, even if I just had to audit it. Anatomy in med school is a nightmare (imo) lol, and I was a newbie going in. Hope your first semester went well.
