NC State Vet School

Has anyone heard anything about the small anatomy course/professor at NC State?
Some people have told me that the professor has actually failed about 2 students or so/year for the past 4-5 years...
I have been accepted into the program, and if it really is a cut throat environment, I am afraid I am not going to make it. I am not the thick skin type...
Any advice, suggestions?

While I don't know anything specifically about NC State, I do know that, just because you get into vet school, it doesn't mean you are guaranteed to get your DVM. Professors are allowed to fail students, and several per year at other vet schools are either held back to repeat a year or drop out all together. The work isn't over when you get to vet school...it's just barely begun.

That being said, they wouldn't admit you to the program if they didn't have confidence in your ability, and they certainly WANT you to succeed.

First off, professors don't fail students. Students fail.

I don't know any statistics but it's not uncommon for a veterinary class to have 1-2 students flunk out during the first year. And some of these are students who realize pretty quickly that this is not something they really want to do.

I don't think it's accurate to refer to vet. school as a 'cut throat environment'. The instructors do everything they can to help the students, they don't want anyone to fail. If nothing else, that's a wasted spot. And you're not competing with classmates for grades like you would be, for example, competing for a spot on a sports team.

So relax ... you'll do fine.
