NCSU CVM Updates

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the same email, no idea what it means regarding admission. But....

Should you receive an offer of admission, I will contact you with information regarding additional financial aid and scholarship paperwork that you will need to complete to be eligible for financial aid at NC State and scholarships at the CVM.

Probably a mass email....

We all got it last year, and not all who received it were admitted.

Now they are dangling a carrot in front of me that is just above my reach with this email...as I stalk the mailman daily!

Critttergal: Sunstorm said everyone should receives the email. Have you received it yet?

Is there anyone else that did NOT receive the email?

I haven't received it yet.

Nope, still nothing. Granted it probably doesn't indicate anything, but considering the small number of OOS admitted it quite possibly indicates which letter I'll receive. Honestly not surprised but still bummed.

I got it this am, and I'm OOS. I freaked out when I saw something from NCSU CVM in my inbox -- I know acceptances come by USPS, but still :scared:.
I wouldn't worry about it if you haven't received it yet, probably just an internet glitch.

Another person I know received their's last night. It seems they are sending in rounds, or your email carrier held the email...check spam.

Haha it seems that most of us are stocking SDN, our emails, and the mailbox. Anyone else having trouble focusing on actual school work?

It is soooo hard to concentrate on school right now. I sure hope to be admitted somewhere before they see my grades this term!

I was flipping out when this thread was so far up the page... already got mail today. Nothing.

Plus, no fun financial aid email... blah

  • Had my GF check the mailbox while I was in class...Twice lol no mail from them today

I am IS and did not recieve the email. Did any IS people get an email yet??

I'm OOS and got the email at 9:08am this morning

LOL, as sumstorm already said, I promise that email doesn't mean anything. I got it last year, and managed to get rejected IS. 😛

I called today and found out letters don't go out until Friday, so next week people. We can all chill

Also I dont think that email means anything at all.

I think we figured out last year that the emails went out in alphabetic clusters.

You rock - thanks for the update! Guess we can all TRY to chillax a bit before the wait next week.

And that e-mail probably doesn't mean much at all, but it was a good reminder for me to bite the bullet and finish up the FAFSA. Blerg. 😛

Did everyone get the email? I can't help but read too far into it...I haven't gotten it.

Seems like half the people whom posted on this thread got the email and half did not. I guess we will see if there is any correlation between the emails and acceptances/ waitlist once the letters come out. But I guess it won't matter by that time...

I haven't gotten the e-mail either.... I'm extremely upset b/c NCSU was my top choice...

dont worry yet guys, it doesn't really mean anything. As Sumstorm and Ben and Me said, receiving the email last year had nothing to do with whether you were admitted or not, so try not to read too much into it.

For those wondering this is what the email says:

Greetings!
You have applied to the CVM at NC State for the upcoming school year. I am the Scholarship and Financial Aid contact for current and future students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. I'd like to give you some advance information regarding scholarships and financial aid at NCSU and the CVM.

Please read this important information if you have applied for 2010-2011 and you are interested in ANY Financial Aid or Scholarships for the upcoming school year.

You must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for ANY financial aid or scholarship. The priority deadline to file is March 1, 2010 and is coming fast. Students who complete the FAFSA by March 1 will have priority for NC State grants (if offered admission). One major difference between completing the FAFSA as an undergraduate and a graduate/professional student is that you no longer need to include parental income on the FAFSA as you are now all considered "independent." So, go to the FAFSA website and update and/or complete the electronic form and submit it no later than March 1, 2010. The website is: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Our FAFSA Institutional Code is 002972. You should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for any financial aid at any institution so complete this and submit it even if you aren't sure that NC State CVM is where you will be attending! Be sure to complete your social security number as this is how NC State will match you to your FAFSA information.

Should you receive an offer of admission, I will contact you with information regarding additional financial aid and scholarship paperwork that you will need to complete to be eligible for financial aid at NC State and scholarships at the CVM.

Information regarding private scholarships for those admitted students will have a separate application and I will send those out to you via email as they become available. Please pay close attention to the individual deadlines for these private scholarships.
Please email me with questions regarding Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Regards,

Johanna

At this point, don't read too much into the mass emails. A friend of mine received the email about financial aid on Tuesday and I did on Wednesday. Then my same friend received a second email about a newsletter on Wednesday, and I have received nothing after that first email. It seems these are random, in my opinion.

Just a few more days and we will know something!

I hate to do this because it's just going to encourage the anxious waiting by the mailbox but I'm just so excited I have to say it. I'm an OOS'er and I got my letter in the mail today. I was admitted!!!!! The letter was dated January 25, 2010 so I'm suspecting they sent it out January 25 or 26.

Wow Risika congrats. If you don't mind me asking...where are you from?

Congratulations!!! Now go post yourself on the accepted students thread! YAY! is this your first acceptance?!

dlf, I don't mind you asking. I'm from Florida/the University of Florida.

GellaBella, yep - this is my first admission! I'm so excited...

Congrats, risika - first OOSer of the year!!! :highfive: Now the rest of us can return to our regularly scheduled program, "Stalking the Mailman."

Thanks guys! 🙂 I'm super excited. Best of luck to the rest of you. I hope to be seeing some more good news here soon from ya'll

Riskia did you or did you not receive the email that has been discussed the last few days?

Congrats 👍

The financial aid one? Yes, I got that email on Tuesday. With that being said, I do not think whether or not you got the email is related to your admissions outcome. I think some people probably didn't get the email due to technical issues with sending out mass emails and such. I could be wrong and I guess, like Sharpei5 said, we'll find out if there is or is not a correlation once more people start to get their letters.

*Congrats, Risicka!* I also received my (first) acceptance letter in the mail today. Very exciting!!! I'm an OOS'er from Virginia. It looks like I received the discussed e-mail on Tuesday, January 26th. (My last name is also towards the beginning of the alphabet.)

I didn't get an e-mail either...

Congrats to those who got accepted! I'm nervous to hear from them now. I won't even know if I get a letter because I'm in KS for an interview right now and heading straight back to school from here. If they're going alphabetically, I'll be towards the end. 🙁

My dad better call me if he finds a letter from NCSU!

Hey everyone. I just got my letter today (I'm in south Florida). My last name is towards the beginning of the alphabet and I did get that email. Congrats to those who have received letters and good luck to those who are still waiting!

I'm in Dallas but am a Florida resident, my last name is towards the end of the alphabet, I didn't receive anything today from NC state, so I'm thinking the email has no indication of acceptance. I'll get back to yall Monday
Congrats to the accepted!

Waitlisted, it says 57 OOS are waitlisted and last year 6 got off of the waitlist.

Waitlisted as well - I'll take it considering the odds! 🙂 And "unranked list"? Anyone know how that is even possible or how it works?

Also, you guys should go post in the alternates thread. Be proud of getting this far!

Looks like the email did have implications to whether you were admitted/waitlisted. Also looks like they sent emails in order of acceptance or waitlist. I got mine at 6:56 AM ET time on the 27th. All the people accepted got the email on the 26th. Maybe we can figure out unofficial waitlist rank haha

No email and a rejection. I hate this whole process.

I'm sorry imajerseygirl. It's alright do you still have other schools to hear from?

I haven't received anything yet. I thought I'd have something in my mailbox today but no such luck. Where in nj are you again? I'm in Elizabeth .

Sucks cause tomorrow I have to go up to ma for my tufts interview. I got a rejection the day before myupenn interview and I'm guessing I'll be getting another one tomorrow. No fun

Congrats to those accepted and waitlisted!!

I'm a NJ resident and a Cornell undergraduate. I was accepted to Cornell last month but was rejected from NC State today. Of 532 out-of-state applicants, only 18 got seats. Still waiting to hear from VA Tech (interviewed there last week), Tufts (interviewing there this week) and U Penn (no word yet.) The vet admissions process is a strange process indeed...

Thanks guys. Congrats on the wait list aspiringDVM, that is something to be proud of still, you're one step closer!

I've got one left. :xf:

Here's the definition I found for an unranked waitlist:

"An unranked waiting list is sometimes referred to as the waiting pool. At the time an opening occurs the applications are weighted and acceptances are made on this basis."

So basically they'll consider all the 57 again if a slot opens up. I guessing in reality there probably is a ranked list behind the scenes since it seems hard to believe they would re-review all the applications, but if they tell applicants there's a rank, it would encourage people to drop off. As it is they'll lose some of the waiting list to people enrolling at other schools.

I could be completely off base, but I had a friend who was waitlisted OOS at NCSU 2 years ago and I think they said they don't rank because they want to fill seats with similar applicants...So, for example, if they lose a food animal person, they want to fill that seat with another food animal person.
