I am a 4th year new to the pursuit of an anesthesiology residency. I was set on EM until I did an anesthesia month at a local community hospital. My school doesn't have an anesthesiology program, and my adviser seems intent on ignoring me. At this point my only anesthesia month is behind me, and the best I can do would be to set up another month in November. Getting a spot at a site with a residency program is going to be difficult at this late stage. I received a great rec letter from my previous rotation. My school is just P/F, so that does little to help me. My question is whether or not it is necessary to do a rotation at a site with a residency program, or would it simply be ok to do another anesthesia month at a different local hospital?

Audition rotation at a residency program. Really no significant benefit of doing another rotation at a community hospital, especially later in the year.

Are my chances for matching diminished if I don't do an audition rotation, assuming that I can get excellent LOR's from those that I do?

As long as you did a 4th year anesthesia rotation that shows up on the transcripts you submit for ERAS and got good LORs from anesthesiologists, another anesthesia rotation is not necessary.

That is what I was wanting to know. Thank you so much for your help.
