Just took the DAT and scored the following:
PAT 24
QR 19
RC 22
BIO 24
GC 20
OC 23
TS 22
AA 22

I will be a PSU grad of Chem Engineering and my gpa is my downfall.
GPA/sGPA = 3.08

Question is will my DAT compensate for schools such as NYU, Columbia, UPenn or Pitt? these are my picks as of now

I'm quite uneducated and am a homeless feline, but regardless I shall give you my 2 fallen off whiskers.

The DATs are great. You need 1 solid year of post-bac courses and you should be in good shape to apply next year.

This fall:
Take 4 sci classes and ace them all.

Spring:
Take 4 sci classes as well and ace them.

Hopefully you'll have a 3.8+ GPA. You most def have a chance with Pitt and NYU, but I wouldn't bank on either Columbia or Penn. Add Temple and a few other private schools to the list and I think you have a shot.

Sorry, in my honest opinion, you will NOT GET IN.

I would take some more classes to boost your GPA. Perhaps consider a Post-bac?

I will apply and hope for the best. However I will consider applying to more schools than my pick of four :/ Perhaps there exists a major multiplier that we don't know about but I'm sure thats farfetched.

I really think you're wasting your $, but who am I to say. If you have a few thousand to spare then go to town with it. If I were you, I'd follow my kitty advice.

Is PSU Penn State? I'm pretty sure they have a great engineering program so that is to your benefit. I think your GPA is fine to apply this year. Schools understand that it's a lot harder to get a high GPA in an engineering program than, say, psychology or business.

How are your ECs? You better have a rockin personal statement to get noticed too.

I have over 100 hours of shadowing at a local pediatric dental office that has 3 dentists. 1 a pitt grad, 1 a uop grad, and 1 a columbia grad who supposedly has a connection. My mother is a dental hygienist and I've come to learn dental lingo and can read and diagnose X-Rays. I just need to formulate a good personal statement. Thanks for your optimism! and yes PSU meaning Penn State University. I just calculated my BCP grade and it came to a 3.3 however overall science is still 3.08... Goes to show the effect of engineering classes on the GPA :/

You're probably annoyed with me for being a Negative Nancy and will ignore what I say. But don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. Sign up for post-bac as backup.

Peace out.

Thank you for your advice. It is greatly appreciated however your suggestion to ace 8 science classes at 3 credits a piece would increase my GPA by .2 where you made an estimate of a .8 jump. Your gross exaggeration leads me to think your advice is a bit exaggerated.

Grossly exaggerated? You grossly misunderstood me. Anyone who's read about admissions process and increasing one's low GPA would understand that I meant you should have a 3.8+ in your postbac GPA if you do go for it. i.e. take 8 postbac science classes and make sure you Ace most of them. It's a separate set of GPA that is highly favored by adcoms. It's both factored into your current undergrad science GPA as well as appearing as a separate category, clearly emphasizing your. I didn't misinform you anything. I've been a predent for a while now and have talked to admissions people at a dental school and I'm only telling you what they've told me. Take it or leave it.

Your attitude is really insulting for someone asking for advice from members. Love hilariously arrogant predents. Apply by all means.

As I have humbly said earlier; thank you for your advice and fortunately your information comes from only one dental school.

I donj't care if your mom is a hygienist or that you have a 100 hrs shadowing, you still know very little about diagnosing at this point. You may not agree with me right now, but should you ever get into d-school you will realize there is going to be a lot of things you have never heard of before or things you need to look at on a dental x-ray that is needed to interpret and make a proper diagnosis.

You're probably annoyed with me for being a Negative Nancy and will ignore what I say. But don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. Sign up for post-bac as backup,
Wow, two things in one post I agree with Miss Kitty. OP - even though I disagree you are completely wasting your money (I've seen people with worse stats get in), I do agree you should have a back-up plan like a post-bac or get a Master's Degree that will help you should you not get into d-school. If you get an interview, they will most likely ask you what your plans will be should you not get an acceptance into their program.

Read your posts Kitty - there is a lot of arrogance in yours as well.

Holy guacamole, this ignore button is fantastic! Can't see jack, just the way I like it!

In all honesty, it doesn't matter what I say. Haters gone hate. Just don't treat your patients and staff with arrogance Best of luck in life.

You agree with me? The apocalypse must be near...
I'm just brutally honest, daddio. A few fellow predents have personally thanked me for my brutal honesty with them about pre-dental plans. Sugar coating boarderline or subpar stats is NOT going to help ANYBODY. Tough up or go home fer shizzle.

From what you quoted, I see that the OP said he can diagnose stuff on dental X-rays. You don't think this is arrogance?

No prob. Here's my PS advice: talk about what you can do for dentistry, not what dentistry can do for you. Also, be careful not to use the D-word (diagnose), that requires a dental school education.

That .2 difference in your gpa will make a helluva difference for landing interviews/acceptances!
