Hey everyone,

Long story short, I'm planning on applying for SMP programs end of 2010/beginning 2011. My goal is to matriculate Fall 2011.

I took the MCAT once before, in August 2006 (the last paper one), and got a 32. It's a decent score, but it's really old, which means I'll have to retake it anyway for med school. 🙁

I was originally planning on taking the exam in Jan 2011. But realistically speaking, I think it's best if I take it at a later date--the next one being March 26th. It's been a long time since I've done ochem, physics... and I need time to review the subjects.

I know that I would do better in March. My concern, however, is whether or not doing so puts me at a significant disadvantage to the rest of the applicants? After all, taking the MCAT March 26th means I won't get the scores until late April. I understand that most schools close their application cycle sometime in April... which is around the time I'll get the results back. Does application cycle closing mean that I can no longer submit ANY info... or does it just mean I have to get the basic stuff in by the deadline, and can submit other info later?

Last of all, do you think it would help if I also take the GRE exam before March, just to have something to submit earlier?

Thank you so much for reading and for any responses/advice 😍

I'm on the same boat right now. But writing my mcat on jan 28th. I think that there are a few things you can do....not all post bacc programs require your mcat scores. eg: for the temple ACMS program, you can either submit your mcat or sat scores. On the other hand, you can also contact some of the program directors to ask them the oldest mcat scores they accept. you might have some leeway at some programs. Then you can still write the march mcat and throw rocks at some more programs. Hope that helps....good luck 👍
