Here is my story:

I sent my aadsas last year 2009 but the studying didnt go as i had planned and i did bad on DAT so didnt send any appliction fees to schools because i didnt think i have a chance except Detroit Mercy which called me and asked me if i was still interested and i should complete my application but they rejected me after all.
For 2010 i sent my aadsas in july and took DAT in september here are my stats:
PAT:22
bio 19
gchem 21
ochem 19
TS:20
RC:17
QR:14🙁
AA:18
my oGPA is 3.35 and science GPA is 3.13
My ECs are:
I had voulteered in a Reginal hospital for over a year
I have shadowed a dentist for the past year
I had 2 quarters of research
I was a memeber of my school predent society and volunteered in their clinic

I have recieved no interviews so far and I still have hope in NYU, Maryland, UDM, Boston
I know NYU is still interviewing cause i call them frequently, dont really know about other schools

I would really reaally appreciate advice, should i retake DAT for the 3rd time ??or should i do post bacc or can i just take some science classes at my local community college since its less expensive than post bacc???

i quit my job last year to study for DAT, now I cant find a job and if i dont get in this cycle i feel like i wasted 2 years of my life doing nothing

I appreciate your help and advice 🙂

Seeing how it is almost spring you should be getting geared up for reapplying. I would look into Post Baccs, and ask people to look at PS and secondary essays. Your QR is kinda low which I don't think matters to much, the only thing that might hurt you is your RC. I know some schools really like RC, and there has been some studies that say that high RC and high boards are correlated. I would call up some schools though and get their opinion. I think you might have to retake, and this being your third try make it count. I feel the easiest way to study for the RC is to get in a habit of reading at least one hour a day (starting today). The stuff that you read should not only be interesting to you, but also challenges your reading ability, and try to read about a wide swath of subjects (pianos to biochem to So. African soccer). Go to your local drug store and pick up an American Scientific and/or Economist, and challenge yourself by reading authors from other time periods (Swift, Twain, even your grandma's King James Bible). I hope this helps

With a TS 20 and AA 18 your scores are not terrible or beyond reasonable. A rule of thumb in regards to retaking the DAT - only do so if you KNOW you can do better. Only you can make that call for yourself. If you took the DAT in Sept 2009 for this cycle, you were late completing your application. I'd defiantly recommend having everything in earlier next time.

The 3.35 oGPA and 3.13 sGPA are low considering your DAT scores are not outstanding. Is there a program that interests you and that you could possibly see yourself using if the dental school thing doesn't work out? Like dental hygiene? Or Masters programs? I'm not suggesting that you stop applying, but don't waste time and money on more school that is not directly applicable to the rest of your life.

Best of luck and hang in there!

Thank you guys for your feedback
I am certain that I want to do dentistry and if its going to take me another year or so its fine i just need to get back on track but i dont know where to start

Although some people say 17~19 on DAT are still acceptable, I still believe that 20+ should be the goal.
Your TS is good, PAT is good, RC is low if English is your 1st language, Math is low.

If English isn't your 1st language, I suggest you search and destroy method that many people talk about on DAT forum.

I got 20 on QR and I think DAT destroyer was a very good way to practice.

With your GPA's I would definitely get studying again for the DAT. I believe you need a 20 like Joonkimdds said. I wouldn't worry to much about the QR portion, I also got a 14 but had an 20aa and I still got into couple of schools with a 3.6 gpa. Good luck!

I think if you work on your QR and retake the DAT you will get a realllly good score. Kaplan's QR is actually very helpful; just do the word problems. In my DAT, every other question was a word problem. Be quick and only do those that you know. QR is not something that could keep you from getting into dental school. Which state are you living in? maybe I could give you some of my QR stuff ( i got 21 in QR).

Thank you. I live in irvine, CA I do have some of kaplan stuff and destroyer to be honost i didnt go over all of them because i didnt have time and i was getting 18-20 on my practice tests. I just froze when taking DAT 🙁 I m scared to take it for the third time

Which practice tests did you use? the Kaplan, TopScore, Achiever????

Hey Parvaz
I live in Irvine too. do you goto UCI? I am a student there as well.
I will be taking my DAT for the first time this Saturday. I am like you. I didn't have enough time to study and am totally unprepared. I already know it will be like 13-15s for the Sciences. So I am going to study right after and take again in 3 months.

why would you take it if you know your scores are going to be that low?

DS can see all your DAT attempts...

Don't take the test! Push it back. What good could it possibly do you to get such horrible scores? If you need practice, take an Achiever test. Don't take the real thing for "practice"!

I agree dont take it if you think u r going to get 15

But earlier you said you quit your job to study for the DAT. What were your scores from the first attempt?

I quit my job for the second attempt. first time i got AA17 TS18 PAT16 i wasnt ready for it especially PAT all i had done was kaplan which is super easy compare to real DAT, but i still took it, big mistake

Well, I know u don't wanna hear this, but shoot for 3rd DAT. 18 is average topped off with 17 RC and 14.QR really hurts ur chances.

Also, post bacc isn't a bad idea, bumping that science GPA would help u a lot

Shoot for 3rd DAT and see what happens
