so first off my stats are as follows:
OC:19
GC:18
Bio:18
RC:19
QR:18
PAT:19
GPA: overall: 3.6 science:3.5
I have shadowed for about 80 hours, have over 200 volunteer hours (nursing home), I currently work in an organic chemistry research lab, and I taught an organic chem. lab at my college UC santa cruz.
I have been through a lot in my life, I had my son when I was 20, I am currently 25 and I have never missed a day of school. Also I recently lost my dad last year whom I was very close with.
I am applying to all california schools along with arizona, oregon, nevada, and colorado.
My dream school is either UOP or UCSF because they are both great schools and my son's father works in the area and it would be really hard for our whole family to move to another state.
What do you guys think my chances are??
Any help would be soooooo appreciated!! thanks

Do you think I have a better chance at USC, Western, or Loma Linda?

Thanks I sure hope so. By the way what exactly is problem based learning? Do you guys think its worth applying to UCSF and UOP?

You have a big chance getting an interview from UCSF cuz you r CA resident. I would not waste money for UOP. Good luck!

O wow thats interesting. Ya I definantly will consider your advice. I really want to stay in the area so UCSF would be perfect. I am just worried about my DAT scores. I called them and they said as long as you don't have any score below a 17 to apply. I asked if it would be in my best interest to retake for higher scores but she said that if I retake and my scores only go up by a couple points, it doesn't show that I know the information but instead only shows that I have taken the test before and am comfortable with the strategy of the test. So basically I decided not to re-take...What do you guys think?

It'll cost you about $300 to apply to UCSF and UOP (1st and 2nd application). So it's up to you. If it were me, I would skip UOP and apply to UCSF 🙂

Shrug... Apply to both. Your stats are fine and some of my classmates here at Pacific got in with your DAT. You'd be on the shallower end of the pool, but it wouldn't be unheard of. I also interviewed at UCSF with a much lower GPA. Your composite application is what's considered, and a few hundred dollars will be a drop in the bucket by the time you're done. Can't succeed if you don't try.

Thanks for the reply! that makes me feel better and I will apply to both...Is UNLV OOS friendly? What about Oregon's dental school are they OOS friendly?? Do I have a chance at those?

Ok good to know...thanks for all your help. Btw when do schools start interviewing usually?
