Hi, I'm a student studying in the Caribbean who is disappointed by his step 1 mark. I got 227. I am not an American citizen (Canadian). I know needing a visa will harm me the most. What are my chances of getting a family medicine residency as a non-us IMG? I would like some advice before I decide if I should continue. Thanks.

Can't you get one in Canada or Australia or England? You can then come back and work in Canada or stay in Australia.

Dude, waaaaaay better than you think. Do well in step 2 ck, and cs (and pass the first time), don't act like the clown from Stephen King's "It" during interviews and you are golden.

Also, since you likely have a year or so before applications start your research on types of visa's and programs that sponsor or accept visa. Consider doing fm sub I at these programs, or getting in touch with the pd's in august prior to applying to express your interest. Some will be more than happy to meet uou, provided you're willing to go out there to meet them. Will give you a huge edge with your more than adequate step 1 score, provided you're not an axe murderer

Hello, I graduated from caribbean Med school in May 2015. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if i have any chance in getting a residency in family medicine with my stats? I have not had any interviews yet.

Step 1 220
Step 2 CK 206 (1st attempt)
Step 2 Ck 220 (2nd attempt)
Step 2 CS Pass first time
ECGMF Certified, US Citizen, Clinical experience in states, few case posters presentations.

I really appreciate all your help.

The short answer is yes. Just apply to many of them and find out where other graduates of your school got accepted and apply to them as well. Also, I know your are anxious to get a spot but there is really no point in wondering about it because you won't know until you try and I'm guessing you didn't go all the way to the islands to get an MD to not try now.

Unless things have drastically changed in three years, those numbers should definitely get you in an FM program if you apply widely (the both of youse).
