Hey guys.

I want to be a dentist but there are a few obstacles in my way. First of all, im terrible at math. Ive taken finite math and college algebra. I also took trig but dropped it since i wasnt doing so well. As a bio major, id need trig, calc 1, and calc 2.

The other problem is that my GPA is low. when i first started college..i didnt know what i wanted to do so i didnt care much about anything school related. So i currently have a 2.5 🙁

So i was wondering lately and if i could major in something else, i could avoid the trig and calc classes. What are peoples thoughts on this? i know it wont be easy regardless but its something id really like to do.

Please share your thoughts on my situation.

work really hard to boost your GPA. take the calc and trig from a community college. i only took calc 1 in college and you don't even need that for the DAT. just get some really good GRE "math workout" books when you go to study for the DAT.

thanks! yeah thats been something ive considered. theres a community college that supposedly a great/easy math department around here. im kind of iffy though because my gpa cant take any more hits.

so overall, you think this would be a better idea than selecting another major such as nursing or psychology and taking the required bio courses?

I feel your pain. Took the DAT twice and got 13's in the qualitative reasoning section. Both times; Ain't that a B!!! About the major, I was a Psych major but took a year of calculus. Alot of people on here just taught themselves or are really good at math.

Definitely change major to something that doesn't require as much math if you aren't comfortable with it. Getting your GPA up has to be priority number one. When the DAT rolls around, you'll just have to practice a TON of quantitative reasoning problems... they aren't that hard (far below a calculus level) but require really fast action on you part. Study hard and you'll do fine. Good luck!
